She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Barbara (Ted), Bernie (Audrey), Conrad (Maureen), Stephen (Robin), Elizabeth (Chris) and Chris (Ginny); grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Shannon (Edmund), Dylan and Teagan; Stephen (Jen); Lauren (Mike), Mia and Logan; Chet (Sadie); Jessica; Susan; Peter (Diane); Sarah (Rob), Lila and Finn; David (Laurren); Matthew; Daniel (Erin); Nathan (Marian); Will, Syd and Tom. Sophie was born on October 20, 1916 in Winnipeg to Mateusz and Maria Gacek, and was sister to Lily, Kaz, Stan, Walter and Ted. She graduated from Angus Business College and thoroughly enjoyed her work for the Province of Manitoba at the Legislature. She met and married Stephen in 1940 and they moved to Altona for a two year commitment to the hospital that lasted a lifetime. Sophie lived her life for and was the heart of the family. She loved the W.I. and the community choir in Altona, and the C.W.L. and the R.C.I.A. when she and Steve moved, in retirement, back to Winnipeg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 275 Stafford Street, with Rev. Fr. Darrin Gurr, presiding. A private family interment will be held in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
