CURTIS EDWIN NIEMI
Date of Passing: Jun 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCURTIS EDWIN NIEMI It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Curtis Edwin Niemi on June 25, 2012 at the age of 44. He was predeceased by his mother Linda and his wife Nancy. He leaves to cherish his life his precious daughter Hannah, father Carl, sister Kim and husband Guy Therrien, sister Melanie and husband Mark Southern, brother Greg and wife Andrea Niemi, nieces and nephews Sarah and Andrew, Carly and Brandon and Jordy respectively, mother-in-law Linda Rosky-Rosser (Malcolm), father-in-law Evan Rosser (Penny), many other uncles, aunts, relatives and friends, and dog and companion Ralphie. Curtis was born in Rivers, MB in 1968 and lived for a short time in Winnipeg before moving with his family to the Selkirk area. After high school in Selkirk, he graduated with a Construction Technology Diploma from RRCC. He used his education to work in the construction sector before becoming a cableman with Manitoba Hydro. Hockey was one of his passions. He played minor hockey in Selkirk as well as with the MNS Stars, Selkirk Jr. B Fishermen and the Selkirk Steelers. Most recently he was an integral part of the Hydro Hornets. He cherished the short time he had with his wife and hockey buddy, Nancy. They were able to share many wonderful moments together, including the Oilers-Avalanche rivalry. Curtis was a guy's guy. Tough and strong. He loved sports cars, fishing and he was an excellent woodworker. He was a unique person. He was never afraid to explore the world around him or to try something new. He always took time for life. Crazy not to , he would say. He sought enrichment and believed that this came not from the destination, but from the journey. He always took time to meet people he encountered along the way. These values are his legacy to Hannah. He was the greatest Dad, taking on the responsibilities of mother as well. He coached soccer, supported Hannah's involvement in dance, gymnastics, woodworking classes and endless hours playing with neighbourhood friends. Curtis always hosted the best birthday parties. His extended family was a big part of Curt's success as a parent. The relationships Curtis built within the family will continue to play a huge role in Hannah's life. Curtis, you will be dearly missed by all of your Peeps A celebration of Curtis's life will take place on Friday, June 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Curtis's memory to the Hannah Niemi Trust Fund at the Bank of Nova Scotia, 377 Main Street in Selkirk or at any of its branches. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

I knew Curtis in high school. Curtis was very kind and that smile well it was always so contagious. He always made me laugh. Later we were car pool buddies to RRC College. Curtis and I were in the same high school together but were in different circles of friends. We never really knew of each other until we met at Red River College. We became very good friends there, going to beer bashes, socials and just hanging out. He became such a close friend that I had him as a groomsman in my wedding party back in 1990. Unfortunately after a few years of me being married and having a family we drifted apart. I had not seen him in about 15 years. I always thought I would get to see him again some day until I heard the tragic news. The words I heard and the pictures I saw at his funeral showed me that he was just as great of a human being before his passing as he was when I knew him best. He will be greatly missed by me, my wife and the remainder of our wedding party. - Posted by: Dave Simard (Friend) on: Jul 11, 2012

I was saddened and shocked to read about Curtis's passing. I played hockey with Curtis (Hornets) years ago, he was a top quality player. Played in hockey tournaments on opposing teams. As a co-worker he was always polite and was well liked. Curtis was always giving of his time, he would volunteer at Grindstone days at the lake and was a hit with all the kids. He will be missed by us all. My deepest and sincere condolences. - Posted by: Michael C. Wright (played with the Hornets, Co-worker many years ago, cottage goer) on: Jun 29, 2012

Linda, I don't know you well, although I feel as though we are "kin" since our ancestors were so close in the past. I've watched you through the years and admire the way you've handled lifes joys as well adversities. May God comfort you through this time of sorrow, and set His angels round about you, especially Hannah, as she grows to be a woman after God's own heart. Much love to you all. - Posted by: Caroline & Percy Stevenson (acquaintances of Linda (Rosser)) on: Jun 29, 2012

My heart goes out to the family and especially for Curtis' daughter Hannah, that day will haunt her for the rest of her life and it is so good to know she has a great network of support from family, friends and loved ones. First she lost a Mommy and now her Daddy. She will go through life knowing that she has two very special angels following her, guiding her and keeping her safe. Keep strong. - Posted by: Brent Polson (Famly Friend) on: Jun 29, 2012

My sincere condolences. I spoke with Curtis's mother in law Linda, as she volunteered backstage at Hannah's 2012 Dance recital. She spoke of her daughter's passing to me, and what a wonderful father Curtis was. My heart breaks for the Family. Lisa Young - Posted by: Lisa Young () on: Jun 28, 2012

Curtis was one of the first journeymen I worked with after starting my career as a cableman. He was the most pleasant and good natured mentor in the trade by a long shot. I wish I could have worked my entire 4 year appreticeship with him. I always hoped our career paths would cross again, unfortunately they did not. My deepest and sincere condolences to the family of this wonderful man. - Posted by: Paul Krahn (Apprentice/Co-worker) on: Jun 28, 2012
