JOSEPH STANLEY WIMBLE October 14, 1926 - June 30, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe after a difficult struggle with COPD and dementia, though Joe never lost his spirit. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley, sons Gord (Julia) and Don, grandchildren Ken and Sarah, sisters-in-law Frances and Hazel, and other family members. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Doris. Joe was born in Winnipeg on October 14, 1926 and grew up in the North End during the depression years, and as a child he had many great adventures there. Joe developed an interest in things mechanical at an early age helping at his grandfather's bicycle shop. At 18 he started as an apprentice mechanic at CN's Transcona Shops. On September 2, 1950 he married Shirley Morgan and later welcomed sons, Gord and Don. In 1953 he joined Trans Canada Airways in Winnipeg at the dawn of airline passenger travel in Canada where he worked for 30 years attaining the position of maintenance foreman in Montreal (Dorval), PQ. He retired in 1983 from Air Canada and returned to Winnipeg to enjoy his retirement years with Shirley as they toured the world together. He also enjoyed curling, working on his stamp collection and watching his grandchildren grow up. Joe had a keen sense of humour with a natural kindness and a friendly manner. We wish to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at Victoria General Hospital as well as Dawn Bathie and her team for their compassionate care of Joe. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. If you so wish, donations may be made to Victoria General Hospital Foundation .
