PATRICIA LYNN TAYLOR (nee SCHERBAIN) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat Taylor on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Pat will be lovingly remembered by her children Scott (Christine) and Tara; her beloved grandchildren Jasmine, Fiona, Graeme, Heather, Madelaine; her brother Gary (Jennifer) and sister Sherril (Gerard); her nieces and nephews Darren, Kevin, Amy, Stephanie, Jason, Andria and Samantha; as well as many Scherbain cousins. She will also be sadly missed by her brothers-in-law Don (Wendy) and Ian (George), and nephew Tim. She was predeceased by her parents. Pat was born September 17, 1944 in Winnipeg to Harry and Mildred Scherbain. Her brother Gary was two years older and her sister Sherril was 12 years younger. Pat was an excellent student. She was in the first major work class at Machray School from Grade 5 to Grade 9. She then attended Sisler and West Kildonan Collegiate Institute and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She was very proud of her North End roots and both her Ukrainian and Irish Heritage. Pat married Norm Taylor, also a pharmacist, in 1965. Shortly after her marriage, first her father then her mother died. Her sister Sherril who was then only 12 years old lived with Pat and Norm for four years. They moved to Gimli in 1969 and opened Taylor Pharmacy. Scott and Tara were born while living there. When her marriage ended in 1975, Pat moved back to Winnipeg with her children. Her life then revolved around them and her work. Pat worked as a community pharmacist for over 40 years. She was a preceptor to many pharmacy students and interns and was chosen the first Preceptor of the year in 1989. She also trained many new pharmacists. But the most rewarding aspect of her job was the special relationship that she had with her customers. Pat was a caring and compassionate pharmacist with very high standards. She was a role model to many. Pat was a strong and independent woman. She raised her children as a single parent and was always so very proud of their many accomplishments. She had a close and loving relationship not only with her children and grandchildren but also with her brother Gary and sister Sherril and their families. She loved nothing more than getting together with family for all kinds of occasions and celebrations. She enjoyed her trips to Nova Scotia to visit Tara and all the outings and sleep-overs with her grandchildren. Over the years Pat stayed in touch with many of her Pharmacy classmates and more recently reconnected with her Machray and Sisler classmates. She treasured their friendships and the many lunches and dinners with them. Pat loved to cook. She hosted many family dinners and has left a large collection of recipes that she perfected over the years. Pat appreciated the simple things in life. Some of her favourites included good books, the English Garden, her patio, taking family photos, Pizza Place pizzas, red wine, CBC radio, jigsaw puzzles, Cooking Light magazines, clean windows, a good haircut and being organized. During her battle with cancer, Pat received a tremendous amount of love and support from her family, friends, neighbours, former classmates and fellow cancer patients. She was also grateful for the excellent care and camaraderie that she received from Dr. Pat Harris and staff at Grace CancerCare. The family is also very grateful for the exceptional care provided by The Grace Hospice and Riverview Health Centre. Pat will be sadly missed but forever remembered by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat's life from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13 at the Pavilion in Assiniboine Park to honour Pat's memory.
