ANNE PROKOPOW (nee GLOSS) July 11, 1917 - August 1, 2012 Peacefully, in her sleep, Anne Prokopow passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joseph (Joan), Richard, and Wendy (John Russell); grandchildren Michael, David, Roger (Andrea), Allan (Trina), Matthew, Andrew (Alison), and Stephanie, daughters-in-law Joanne and Lee; granddaughter-in-law Charlotte; great-grandchildren Kamryn, Ainsley, Jackson, Brooke, and Conner, as well as other beloved family and friends. Anne was predeceased by parents Joseph and Eva Gloss; husband Michael; son Robert; brother Jack, and sister Sophia, as well as sisters-in-law Mary Gloss and Anne Horning, and brothers-in-law John Wasylik and Walter Prokopow. Anne was born and raised on a farm southeast of Libau, Manitoba and in her late teens moved to Winnipeg to work as a housekeeper in St. Boniface. On Valentine's Day, 1939, she married Michael Prokopow and together they raised four children. In 1947, they acquired the Lockport Feed Mill which they ran for many years, making many friends in the surrounding farming community. She and Michael also ran the Lockport Taxi for several years. After her husband's death, Anne moved to the town of Selkirk. Anne was very active in the CWL of Notre Dame Catholic Church for many years and, as long as she was able to do so, gave freely of her time to her church. She made many lifelong friends while doing this work. Anne was involved in her children's lives and loved family gatherings where it was the more, the merrier! She loved preparing huge feasts for family and friends alike and seemingly produced amazing dishes from nothing in no time. Anne was a skilled knitter and many in the family were the beneficiaries of her beautifully crafted gifts. More importantly, Anne was deeply committed to supporting her family in whatever way she could and was a source of wisdom and strength to all of us. Anne always put others before herself. Even as she was nearing the end of her life and was quite ill, she continued to put others' ease and comfort before her own needs. The family would like to thank Dr. Rick Lindenschmidt for his care and concern over the years. Thank you also to her home-care ladies and the staff at both Selkirk General Hospital and the Ashern Medical Center for the excellent care they gave to Mom/Baba, especially in her last few months. Prayers will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. The funeral Mass, a celebration of Anne's life, will take place at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in Selkirk, Manitoba on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers for Anne's final journey are her six grandsons - Michael, David, Roger, Allan, Matthew, and Andrew. Honorary pallbearer is her granddaughter, Stephanie. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to, may make memorial contributions to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, the Manitoba Lung Association, or a charity of their own choosing. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
