JEAN MADELINE KIRKBRIDE (nee LAKING) March 19, 1919 - August 8, 2012 Peacefully passed away. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, John (Jake). She is survived by seven children: sons, Bob and John and daughters, Cathy, Pat, Joyce, Barb and Bev, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jean was born and raised in Winnipeg along with her brothers John and Bruce Laking. While in Winnipeg, Jean worked for the Wheat Board and Eatons. Mom (Jean) moved up to Flin Flon in the early 1940s to work at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. That's where she met Jake on a blind date. They raised their seven children in Flin Flon. Jean was on the alter guild and along with her family a supporter of the St. James Anglican Church. She volunteered with Girl Guides, Job's daughters and all the activities her children were involved in. Mom loved to golf, play bridge, curl and watch curling; she made sure all her children kept active, honest and worked hard. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. She loved the fresh air and always kept busy. Up until her last few days, she kept up with news and phoned all her children at least once a week. We will miss her dearly but her life will go on in the lessons, love and support she showed to us all. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
