ERNEST (ERNIE) MARCEL MARCHAND It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ernie Marchand on September 9, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Irene; sons Raymond (Pat), Claude (Joanne), Ed (Karen), Denis (Cathy), and daughter Dolores (David Wilkie); grandchildren Christine (Rick Welder), David (Helen), Lisa, Joe, Chris (Andrea), Nicole, Ryan, Julia, Amy, Marika, and great-grandson Gavin That Boy Welder, sisters Flo (Marcel) Delaquis, Annette (Cliff) Coates, in-laws Barney Ayotte, Marcel and Jeanine Pineau and Madeleine (Fred) Pineau. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Therese Marchand, brothers Leo (Helen), Arthur (Josee), Alphonse (Lucie), sisters Yvonne Ayotte, Eva (Amedee Leclair). Ernie was born in Benson, SK on May 29, 1919 and moved to Cardinal, MB in 1934. Ernie started his career as a Grain Buyer in Dand and St. Jean. He moved his mother and sisters to Winnipeg after the 1950 flood where he began a successful career in Life Insurance, eventually becoming a Branch Manager for Monarch Life followed by Fidelity Life (Industrial Alliance). Ernie then started his own insurance and investment brokerage company, Marchand Agencies, until he finally retired at the age of 90. Ernie and Irene lived in Windsor Park for 48 years where they raised their family and were blessed with great neighbours, many of whom became lifelong friends. Ernie was a farmer at heart and took great pride in his yard and garden. He loved to entertain and the door was always open to friends, family and business associates. Ernie was an avid golfer belonging to St. Boniface Golf Course for over 40 years, playing his last game at the age of 92. Ernie will be greatly missed by all. In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Emile Church, 556 St. Anne's Road. In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Emile Church, 556 St. Anne's Rd.
