Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • I am deeply saddened by losing Beni and the pain and suffering that Vandana, Amy and family are experiencing. He was a great mentor, friend, and a father figure to me. He always believed in me unconditionally. I witnessed how he selflessly helped his students and colleagues. He was passionate about his work, his family and friends. He was an example of how a human being should be. He gave his all to his family, work and friends. I have known Beni, Vandana and Amy for over fifteen years. Losing him has left a deep scar in my heart. Beni gave so much to others. He invested so much time and effort in his daughter Amy’s upbringing. He had dreams of being there for Amy every step of her life. My hearts weeps for Vananda and Amy for the pain they must be going through. I will miss seeing the three of them laughing, singing and being together. Beni was the centre of their lives and it is just not the same. I pray for strength for Vandana, Amy and family to get through this trying time. - Posted by: Archana Baker ( Student and friend) on: May 18, 2013

  • I use to call him as babuji from my childhood. he was one of my inspiration and a person who always teach to become a good human being. His words and thoughts will be always remembered by me. I love him a lot as he is not less than my father, my guide and my best friend. I know you will bless us from there. love you always from all four of your daughter. RIP - Posted by: SHANTUL SAHAI (Niece ) on: Dec 08, 2012

  • I am deeply shocked to hear this sad news. Beni Sahai was a decent man, a dedicated scientist, and a good friend. My deepest sympathy with his family and may Beni Sahai rest in peace. I had no information about his health and this news came as a complete surprise. He was full of life and enthusiasm; it is hard to believe that he is no more. I am deeply saddened. - Posted by: Asad Ahmed (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2012

  • You gave me an opportunity to volunteer in your lab, which was the first stepping stone for my career in Canada. Preetha and I will always be indebted to you for your kindness; sorry, I never told you how thankful I have been, RIP - Posted by: JK (Friends) on: Sep 25, 2012

May God give Mamiji & Ami courage to take future paths successfully and let his dream come true. - Posted by: CA Sanjeev Verma,Lucknow, india (He was my maternal father in law) on: Sep 24, 2012

  • It has been more than 12 years since I left Winnipeg. Beni and his family had visited our apartment once in Winnipeg, but I still remember his jovial nature. I recall him telling us that he once surprised his mother in India by his unannounced visit. Naturally he loved his mother so much, and I am sure he will remain loved by all those he has left behind. May God shower strength on Vandana and Amy to bear this unbearable loss and may the departed soul rest in peace. - Posted by: Vijendra Boken (friend) on: Sep 22, 2012

  • I am tremendously saddened to see that our friend has left us for a better place. This is shocking and terribly distressful news for all of us, and it will take a long time for us to come to grips with this loss. Beni will be remembered as an extremely creative and thoughtful scientist, able to seamlessly blend the biological questions of human nature at so many different levels with his depth of knowledge and unbounded passion. His contributions to the fields of immunology, virology, and public health are unquestioned, and are reflected in his outstanding scientific reputation. But to us, his colleagues and friends, Beni was much more than an outstanding scientist. He will be remembered as a warm and caring friend, and as a dedicated mentor who always gave credit to his students. He will be remembered for his love of travel, good food, fight for highest level of scientific achievements, and for his honesty. He will be remembered as a wonderful colleague who gave freely of his time, advice and expertise. As Carl Rakosi said: "Friends are not made; but recognized". And Beni was truly recognized. - Posted by: Seyed Moghadas (Family Friend and Colleague) on: Sep 16, 2012

  • Beni and I were officially colleagues, as we were both disease researchers... but we quickly grew to become friends. We travelled together in China and Mexico, attended conferences in Banff, Toronto and Ottawa. Despite the quarter of a century that lay between us, we were inseparable at these events. Beni taught me an enormous amount about immunology and we often conversed on mathematical modelling. However, that is not how I will remember Beni. While I am deeply saddened by his passing, it is Beni's humour that looms largest for me. Throughout multiple cities and countries, Beni's stories and jokes had me laughing almost continually. Looking back through my photos of our various travels together continually brings a smile to my face, even in the midst of sadness. There can be no greater legacy, in my opinion. Beni was a larger than life character, whom I adored. I will miss him terribly, but I am also thankful for the joy he brought to my life. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Robert Smith?
