Born: Dec 24, 1931
Date of Passing: Sep 17, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN MICHAEL MAYDANIUK December 24, 1931 - September 17, 2012 It is with heavy hearts and extreme sadness that the family of Steve Maydaniuk announce his passing on September 17, 2012. Steve lost his short but courageous battle with leukemia with his loving wife Catherine Maydaniuk by his side. Stephen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and cherished friend. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Catherine Maydaniuk; their children: daughter Diane (and her husband Terry Gold, Dauphin); son Allan (and his wife Bonnie, Winnipeg) and son Timothy (and his wife Shauna Scott, Verona, WI); his grandchildren: Maegan-Rae (Melbourne, Australia), Evan (Winnipeg) Quinton and Amber (Verona, WI) and Lance (Dauphin); as well as his brother and sisters: Sylvia Obednak (Russel), Nadia Sawchuk (Neepawa) and Leonard Maydaniuk (Winnipeg). We would also like to mention our special family friend Betty Flemming (Virginia, USA) and goddaughter Celeste Kopton (Winnipeg). Stephen Maydaniuk was born in Oakburn, MB on December 24, 1931, to Stanley and Mary Maydaniuk. He later served in the Canadian Army for just over three years with the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. There he was a paratrooper and made over 33 jumps. He later found a career working as a superintendent at the Borland Construction Company; he retired after 30 years of hard and dedicated work. He enjoyed a long retirement visiting family in many different places. He loved flying to Florida as well as driving to Wisconsin and Dauphin to visit his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling coast to coast and to Europe. He also loved gardening and cooking jam with his wife, as well as going for coffee and breakfast with his close friends. Some of his favourite memories were traveling to Virginia to visit his good friend Betty and spending weekends at Julie's farm in Elma with his many friends. One of his small joys in life was feeding the numerous birds, squirrels and chipmunks that flocked to his house for a snack. His biggest joy in life was seeing his children and grandchildren succeed. He reveled in all his family's many different accomplishments; whether they were athletes, artists or musicians; he would tell them at every possible moment how proud they made him feel. Stephen was a loving and caring man who would do all he could to help support those he loved. He was a strong and steady figure who helped guide all members by example and encouragement. He will be sorely missed by all. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their care. We would also like to thank the staff at Manitoba CancerCare for their kindness. Finally we would like to thank all our friends and extended family for all the support they have given us in these last few months. Prayers will be held on Friday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. and the celebration of Stephen's life will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m. All observances will be held at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 1500 Day Street. I was shocked to hear about Steve's passing. Steve showed me how a true Christian lives life, and I trust I have learned something from his examples. I remember him holding my grandson so our family could eat quietly when we attended the fall supper at All Saints UOCC in Transcona in 1996. That is BUT one example of his demonstration of kindness to others....there are many more. Steve, we will miss you and your many acts of kindness. My deepest sympathy to Cathy and the family......they have lost a gem of a human being. With deepest sympathy.......Iris (Krochak) Johnson and family. May his Memory be Eternal! My condolences to the family. Mr. Maydaniuk was a great neighbor and mentor. I have many great memories of delivering papers with him and the boys. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to re-connect after my absence from the neighborhood. He was the true essence of a good neighbor and a real gentleman. - Posted by: Tom Napady (family friend and former neighbor) on: Sep 21, 2012

In Sympathy From the Tree of Life, Each leaf must fall--- The green, the gold, The great, the small.... Each one in God's own time, He'll call-- With perfect love, He gathers all.
