Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT (ALBRECHT) GREIFENHAGEN Peacefully, with his family at his side, Albert passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg on September 19, 2012. Albert is survived by his wife Irmgard, of 58 years, son Volker (Susan Cherland), son Rick (Tina), daughter Sylvia, and grandchildren Kyle, Ashley, Isaak, Jakob and Robert. He also leaves behind his brothers Rheinhold (Hannelore), Gunther (Traudel) and Volker (Ina), and nieces Cornelia, Martina, Heike and Simone. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Helene (nee Neumann). Albert was born February 7, 1932 and raised in Dittmansdorf, Germany. He immigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in Winnipeg. In 1953, he married Irmgard Gozdz of Köln, Germany. Albert worked as a millwright, and was part-owner of Euroway Industrial Services. He was a member of the Norwood Lodge. Albert loved fishing, canoeing, playing cards and making his own wine; he enjoyed a good joke and was quick to light up a room with his laughter. He loved people and welcomed all into his home. Albert will be dearly missed. Special thanks to the nursing staff on 4 North at Victoria Hospital for your special care. A family funeral was held Sunday, September 23, 2012. I am thinking of all of you all this past week. And I am thinking of when Sylvia invited me to live with her parents before asking them, trying to learn from Rick and Tina how to live with Albert and Irmgard without getting spoiled, phoning Volker and Susan before ever meeting them to sneak Albert and Irmgard to North Carolina. I am remembering canoeing, smoking fish, going to taichi, trying to speak German and learning just enough to get into trouble, messing with phone solicitors, mauling the backyard trees every year, bringing friends and family from all over the world home because it felt like my home too. I remember not being able to keep up with Albert and Irmgard at the New Year's parties, countless nights solving the problems of the world, and seeing your grandchildren all grown up. I've learned so much from you. Aufwiedersehen Mein Herr, Mein Vater, Mein Freund. In Namu Amida Buddha. - Posted by: David Ip (Family friend) on: Sep 26, 2012

Volker and I were childhood friends since age five or so, and his father, my surrogate 'Uncle' Albert, was a common sight in our home, adding high spirits and laughter with every visit. And more often I was a guest of theirs, in a most welcoming household. Albert was a very dedicated man - to his family, his friends and his work. Fortunate are those whose lives were touched by him. He will be missed. I extend my deepest sympathies to Volker, Rick, Sylvia and mother, Irmgard. Thank you, Albert (and family) for those fond childhood memories that seem as clear today as when they were forged so long ago. I pray that you find comfort, courage and strength in these difficult days. Please know my thoughts are with you. God bless you, Albert. Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Alvin Radtke (Family Friend) on: Sep 25, 2012

I had the pleasure of meeting Albert at many different Masonic functions, a good man and a good Freemason. - Posted by: Roy M McMillan (A Masonic friend ) on: Sep 24, 2012
