Born: Sep 24, 1921
Date of Passing: Sep 23, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGINA TAYLOR The flowers are blooming a little brighter and the veggies are growing a lot bigger in heaven, because Georgina Green Thumb Taylor has found her garden of peace. On Sunday, September 23, 2012 one day shy of her 91st birthday, the world lost one of the kindest, most caring, loving, and big hearted women to have graced our lives. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Blanche Opocensky, her sisters Marie and Anna, her brother Joe, her daughter Melody Joy at birth, her husband Bill, and her daughters Cheryl Taylor and Tanys Empson (Mike). Left to remember the good times are: daughter Ginger Taylor of Vancouver, daughter Jill Barlow (Bob, Tanner, and Jess) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Tiffany and Ryder Taylor (mother Cheryl), Jaison Empson (Lynda, Liam, and Avery) and Brittain Empson (Tammy, Rhys, and Conner) (mother Tanys); and brother Fred (Anne) Opocensky of Windsor, ON. Georgina was born in Borotin, Poland to Czech parents, and immigrated to Canada at the age of three. They settled into a house on River Road near Dominion City. As a young woman, she worked at the Waddell Hotel, later known as the Queen's, as a housekeeper where she met a strapping young man named Bill. They were married in 1943 and had five beautiful daughters. Georgina held many jobs throughout her life; McDonald Aircraft and nurse's assistant during the war, 4-H Leader, home economist, Credit Union manager, and post mistress for Canada Post. In 1997 she lost her home in Dominion City to the flood, and she moved to Winnipeg into an apartment in St. Vital, where she lived for 12 years. She then moved to the Lindenwoods Manor, where she met so many wonderful friends. She was our Ginks , our Mumblypegs , our Gran , our everything . She completed us. A Mother/Grandmother/Great-Grandmother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. I'd like the memory of me To be a happy one I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles When my life is done I'd like to leave an echo Whispering softly down the ways Of happy times and laughing times And bright and sunny days I'd like the tears of those who grieve To dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave When my life is done. PER ARDUA AD ASTRA - Through adversity to the stars We thank the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, 5th floor, for all of their gentle and loving care, as well, her personal physician Dr. N. Roman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dominion City United Church in Dominion City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dominion City United Church, or to the Dominion City Legion. Morris Funeral Home 204-746-2451 Toll Free 1-866-746-2451 www.morrisfuneralhome.ca

When I was a young girl we would go to DC on summer holidays. I would spend many a day at Aunt Georgina's house helping her with her girls. She let me take Ginger and Jill out in the baby carriage for walks. In later years when we visited WPG I always tried to visit her. She was a wonderful person. My condolences to Jill and Ginger and the rest of the family. She lived a long and fruitful life and will be missed. I just learned of her passing yesterday and am deeply saddened. - Posted by: Anita Dey (Niece) on: Dec 21, 2012

I have such fond memories of Georgina. I loved to stop in and see her as I went to and from the swimming pool in D.C. She would be out tending her garden and would always take the time out to chat. I remember going out with her a few times in search of rose hips with which she later made tea. She was such a remarkable, kind-hearted lady who really appreciated Mother nature and all her glory and I appreciate the way she would take the time to share that appreciation with me. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and never forgotten. My condolences to the Taylor family. - Posted by: Sherri-lyn Sigurdson (French) (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2012

My condolences to you the family who have lost a loving and warm person. My memories go way back to when I used to babysit and when one or more of you were often at our house playing with my sister. The yard full of flowers also sticks out in my memory. Sorry I did not hear about the funeral till afterwards. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Carol Wilkinson (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2012

I was very sorry to hear of Georgina's passing. Georgina always has a smile on her face and was always willing to talk to anyone and also took the time to listen to them. I remember going to her house for 4-H, and she always took the time to teach everyone the right way to sew and made us feel proud of the work that we did. She was a very special lady. She will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Karen Hopkins (Stefiuk) (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2012

Georgina always kept in touch over the years and I always appreciated her birthday calls. As a young girl, she always showed me such kindness even though she was a few years older. I am saddened by her passing but so pleased to know she had so many people who loved her. - Posted by: Shirley Runnells (Cousin on Bill's side) on: Sep 28, 2012

Mrs. Taylor was an enormously kind individual who took a sincere interest in the wellbeing of so many children in our little village as evidenced by her work in 4-H. On a more personal level, even with the briefest exchange, Mrs. Taylor always raised my spirits. A truly nurturing woman. - Posted by: Janice Sullvan (childhood admirer) on: Sep 27, 2012

So sorry to hear of Georgina's passing. I was thinking of her the other day and wondering how she was. I remember her taking so much time and how patient she was preparing our 4-H presentations. Of course, I also remember those wonderful buns she used to make. - Posted by: Val Skene (Friend) on: Sep 25, 2012
