VERDA ANDREW (nee MILLS) Verda was born October 15, 1926 in Starbuck, Manitoba, she passed away on September 22, 2012 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba with her family by her side. Verda is survived by her daughters Patti (Brent) and Paula (Robert), grandchildren Jason (Lara), Sean, Matt (Janelle), Brad (Courtney) and Morgan, great-grandchildren Ethan and Jorja; nephews Bob and Jim Mills and their families. Verda was predeceased by her husband Jim and daughter Kathy. Mom's caring and compassionate nature extended well beyond her own family. She devoted her life to raising her three girls and later her grandchildren and great-grand-children, as well as numerous adopted' children and grandchildren along the way. The number of people who referred to our mom as mom' or grandma' speaks to what a loving person she was. She was never happier than when she was with a group of her kids'. She had a passion for baking and could always find time to bake that special batch of cookies, Easter bread or grandma buns' for a special occasion. One of the things that made mom so special was that she was up for any challenge that came her way - nothing was too crazy for her to try, running through the finish line at Ironman Canada with her grandson Jason, riding as a passenger on a 200 km. motorcycle ride, travelling to New York City at 80 years of age to see the home opener of her beloved New York Yankees with her girls. Mom was a person of deep faith, extremely spiritual but not tied to one religion. She spent many years studying reflexology, Reiki and energy work and spent countless hours healing friends and family. Mom was definitely a woman ahead of her time. Her family would like to express their sincerest thank you to Dr. James Johnston, Erin Streu and all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their care over the past six years; Mary Ashcroft and Dr. Bruce Martin of the Palliative Home Care Team, as well as Dr. Ted St. Goddard, Diane and the team on 3 East at Riverview Health Centre for their amazing care of our mom over the past two and one half months. Patti and Paula would like to express their heartfelt thank you to our many good friends and colleagues that have been such a tremendous support these past months. In recent years one of mom's passions was the Breast Cancer Pledge Ride - first as a proud supporter and the past two years as a rider. Mom's wish was that in lieu of flowers, friends will make a donation in her name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in support of the Breast Cancer Pledge Ride. A celebration of mom's life will take place on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel - 1839 Inkster Blvd. (at Keewatin). • Our dear friend Verda, how we cherish your the life your shared with us! Your incredible strength along with a well developed sense of humor are so much part of the life lessons we take from you. The many calls to my place of work and the long talks we had about your gifts of family as well as your great loss. The notes that you wrote to me and read on those calls inspired me at times when I needed it the most. Your rest is well earned Grandma - Posted by: Sandy and Norm Hiebert (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2012
