OLGA BOYCHUK On September 30, 2012 our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olga Boychuk passed away peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre. She was predeceased by her parents Danylo and Mary, husband of 51 years, Mike, daughter Alice and 16 siblings. Olga leaves to mourn her daughters, Diane (Craig) and Gladys (Rudy); son Mike (Marilyn); daughters, Grace (Paul), Gloria (Baldi) and Donna (Lorne); as well as numerous grandchildren and her great-grandchild. Ma was born in St. Agathe on March 8, 1921. At five years old she moved to her parents homestead on Burma Rd, and shortly after they moved to the family farm on PR 231. She married dad in 1937 and they lived and raised their family on that same farm until dad's passing in 1988. She was an extremely hard working woman. She spent time at the fish camps and farmed along side her husband. She took great pride in working in the laundry department at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli for 23 years, retiring at age 64. Olga gave of herself and didn't expect anything in return, often going with little for herself. After retirement, she found comfort in her bus tours, especially to Alaska. She had a gift for making a banquet with next to nothing. Olga enjoyed gardening, loved animals, angling and watching baseball. In her later years, there wasn't a day that went by that she didn't fondly speak of her parents with pride and admiration of their hard work ethic and how it was passed on to their children. Ma had a strong belief in God and knew someday that she would be reunited with all of her loved ones who predeceased her. Anyone that knew her, knew she was a strong, independent, forgiving person. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 11 at 2:00 p.m in the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Gimli. A viewing will be held prior to the service. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Baldi Johanneson, Lorne McLellan and Craig Tatton, good friend, Dave Kowcan and daughters, Gloria and Donna. The family would like to thank Dr. RC Patel for his excellent care of Ma all these years, to the EMS attendants, Dr. Wong and RN Dana. Also to the staff at Betel home, she really enjoyed living there. GOODBYE Goodbye my family, my life has passed. I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take, Love each other, for my sake. For those you love don't go away, They walk beside you everyday. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Olga was a grand lady who loved to share stories of the olden days. She was very proud of her children especially when she spoke of them when you asked about the picture on the wall. I brought Holy Communion to her when she couldn't attend Mass on Wednesdays. We talked about gardening, picking mushrooms, also Ann Penziwol would visit with me, we will miss her. - Posted by: Angela Zalevich (Friend ) on: Oct 01, 2012
