Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANN (JOE) BENEDIKT JOHNSON On Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Joe passed away at 88 years of age. Joe was born on Hecla Island to Jens and Gerda Johnson on July 25, 1940. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Asa Eggertson (Kjartan), Hildur Clarke (Dean), and Sigga Johannesson and his brother Jens. Joe is survived by his extended family including his brother-in-law Ingi Johannesson (Rose) and nieces and nephews and families in Manitoba and British Columbia. As well Joe leaves to mourn his passing his adopted family of Rose Gunn, Carol Moskal (Mike), Christopher (Jaquie) and Dawn Mason. Joe spent his entire life as a fisherman at Hecla. He cared deeply for his family, offering a great deal of assistance and care for his mother and his brother Jens. Joe was a loyal friend and neighbor and enjoyed the life as a fisherman and in particular the annual journey to the north basin of Lake Winnipeg. Those trips to fish stations all over the Lake gained Joe many lasting friendships with fellow fishers and his crews. Joe was an understated, quiet, unassuming, and selfless individual who was always willing to share his time and whatever resources he had freely with friends and neighbors. It is common knowledge that Joe never made a big production over his coming and going - getting up and leaving often before we had time to say goodbye. In a similar fashion, Joe has left our lives for a much better place. But again, he has left us very quietly, making few demands on us and expressing thanks for all the good times we've had together. We will miss you Joe! Joe's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff and medical team at Gimli Community Health Centre for the outstanding care and compassion they generously gave Joe during the last few months of his life. Cremation has taken place and honoring Joe's wishes a private family internment will take place at Hecla at a later date. Goda Nott Joe We will all miss you! Rest in peace. Dear Families We send our condolences to Lyla, Brian & Family, Glen & Family, Leslie & Family, Rose & Family. We will always remember our trips to Hecla and camping in Joe’s yard. We always enjoyed making him chuckle and always had a good visit. Ingi recalls the good times when he worked with Joe fishing. He was a great guy to work with and we had many enjoyable times. We had missed our regular phone calls with Joe so we were so glad we were finally able to talk to him at your place Rose when he was home from the hospital. We will miss you Joe. You are at peace. Till we meet again. Love Ingi & Rose Johannesson Surrey, BC - Posted by: Ingi & Rose Johannesson () on: Oct 19, 2012
