Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY SMITH On Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Deer Lodge Centre, Harry passed away at 92 years of age. Harry was born in Reaburn, Manitoba on June 14, 1920. He was predeceased by his parents Angus Smith and Nellie Smith (Miner), his adoptive parents Harry and Mona Mussell, his brothers Tom, Walter and Kenneth Smith, sisters Ethel (Alexander), Verna (Lyle), and adoptive sisters Fern Stutsky and Ina Rutherford. He is survived by his adoptive brother Arnold Mussell as well as numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins. Harry was a member of the R.C.A.F. (Bomber Command) during the Second World War, serving in the UK, Italy and North Africa. After the war, Harry worked as a mechanic for various GM dealers in Winnipeg including Terry Balkan's and Community Chev Olds. Although not a musician, Harry's hobby and passion was old time music - especially the violin. He was a fixture at many of the fiddling contests in Winnipeg, Carman, Miami and other parts of the province, enthusiastically recording and videotaping all of the contestants. His collection of old time music was unmatched. After suffering a stroke, Harry moved to the Deer Lodge Centre in December 2006 where he continued to reside until his passing. Harry's family would like to thank the staff of Tower 5 for the kindness and dedicated level of care shown to Harry during his time at Deer Lodge. As per Harry's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date in Poplar Point, Manitoba. A memorial service for Harry will be held at the Chapel in the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012. Harry wished that all who attend to be considered honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tower 5, Deer Lodge Centre.
