IRENE ELISABETH SARGENT (nee HOHLER) Passed away on October 16, 2012 after a long illness. Irene was born in Vevey, Switzerland and emigrated to Canada in 1971 to learn English and work in the travel industry. In 1975 she met her future husband David and they were married in 1978. In 1984, with the arrival of their son, Irene became a stay at home mother. At this time Irene started doing volunteer work, helping the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors, teaching preschool swimming at the Y and reading to and talking French to students at schools in around Selkirk. Later she did volunteer work at St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals. Irene enjoyed taking part in activities at the Winnipeg Sports Car Club, including competitive activities and acting as starter for their races, camping with her family and travelling. She was a life member of the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors and the Winnipeg Sports Car Club. Irene was predeceased by her father Werner and mother Irma. She is survived by her husband David, son Douglas, daughter Dianne (Jordan), brother Werner (Marlene), sister Edith (Jean-Pierre) and her nieces and nephews. I hope your wonderful memories will bring some comfort and some big smiles when remembering Irene's lively personality. Even though we lost track of each other after her marriage, my thoughts were always with her.
