Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Roger was THE love of my life. He witnessed my daughter's birth. He called the day of my mom's funeral. I had hoped to see him again on this side. - Posted by: Lesia Koren Fagan (Friend ) on: Mar 13, 2015

  • I have only recently found out about Roger's passing. I was a Toronto musician, now living in the Maritimes, who knew him during the early nineties when he was a member of the Toronto incarnation of the band Texarcana. He was a fellow afficionado of music and wing chun, and was down-to-earth and easy to talk to. It saddens me to learn of his passing. I wish you all comfort and fond memories. - Posted by: James Munroe (Friend) on: Oct 31, 2014

  • I had the privilege of performing and recording with Roger in the early 90's for a few years with a band 'Texacana' which brought us to many festivals (including Mariposa where Molson Park used to be just north of Toronto; headliners that day were David Lindly and Jackson Browne)By 1993 the band had split and I heard Roger moved back to the Peg. Roger was a passionate, loving man that had a lot of good-natured hippy in him. He was the voice of reason when we fought and the soul in the rockin' Texas blues which drove our spirit. I'm sad to hear of his passing but his memory has been rekindled. - Posted by: Rich Roxborough (Bandmate) on: Oct 31, 2014

  • It is with sadness that I write this passage for my Uncle Roger. Even though I have not seen him much over the years (having relocated to Vancouver, BC) I remember fondly some of the fun times we had in Winnipeg and Toronto in the late 80s. I was always intrigued by Roger's love and open spirit for music. He taught me a lot about learning to appreciate music and told me to keep an open mind when listening to it. I enjoyed watching him play and had seen him several times over his musical career. He would always talk to me about his experiences in music and how he was working on the next big musical project, whether it was trying new songs or jamming with a new band. I always admired his ability to dream and how he pursued this throughout his life. It is dreams that keep us going and I know he will continue his quest in spirit. One of the best times we had was in Toronto. Having gone there to visit him, I acted as a roadie for the band he was with one evening. After his show we went down to a place called Grossman`s Tavern in T.O. where great blues musicians came to jam. The night we went there, a fellow named Bobby Bland was jamming after a show in town and it was one of the best performances I can remember seeing ever. Roger was in awe of this master craftsman and we partied all night long at this club. What a great time. When I think of my uncle, I think of music and how it can free your soul. It is what he loved, and I am sure the notes will carry on in his soul forever. Sleep well uncle. I will miss you. - Posted by: Terrence Fines (Nephew) on: Oct 25, 2012

  • RIP Roger "The Hurricane". I believe that "there's a rock and roll Heaven. Well you know they've got a hell of a band." I am sure that BB & the band he's with Up There is going to really rock with you now in it! Winnipeg's loss of a music legend is now Heaven's gain. Thank you for sharing your experiences and talent with my band, it was always fun jamming with you. You are missed. Condolences to your family & friends, they are in my prayers. - Posted by: Mark Ewonchuk (musician friend from Ace in the Hole) on: Oct 24, 2012

  • So sorry to hear about Roger. My condolences to all of his family and friends. I had the pleasure of having Roger as my friend and he used to come out and do some jamming at alot of my gigs. I haven't seen him for a long long time, but that is why they say, if you are truly friends, you don't have to have constant contact. You just remain in each other's hearts. R.I.P. my friend. You are in a better place now. Take care everyone! - Posted by: Carol Hargreaves (friend/fellow musician) on: Oct 21, 2012
