JEAN YOUNG (BELANGER)
Date of Passing: Oct 18, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN YOUNG (nee BELANGER) It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Young on Thursday, October 18, 2012, lovingly known to all of us as Oma Jean . Born and raised in Selkirk, Jean was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her husband Walter. She leaves to mourn her daughter Louise Jehle (Hans); grandchildren, Grant Jehle (Maralee), Lisa McFeetors (Mike), Paula Turner (Lane) and six wonderful great-grandchildren, Hannah, Emmett, Jack, Josh, Sam and Max. Jean's life revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved having everyone together for any occasion and her family included her in everything. She spent weekends at the lake, and many family vacations down south. She loved watching the birds at home and made sure they were well fed through all seasons. Jean was a good friend to many and truly had a zest for life! Oma Jean could be described as vibrant, feisty, youthful, fun and funny, bossy, loving, stubborn, one-of-a-kind...just to name a few. She will be forever in our hearts and always remembered. We love you OJ, enjoy all the dark toast! Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Little Britain, MB, with a viewing to be held prior to the service. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Aunty: I still cannot believe that next time I visit Winnipeg I will not be able to visit you. No doubt you are not only my favourite Aunty but also my brothers' and sister's. You have always been a support for us - never forget when you flew to BC with me, many years ago, when our brother, Roland, died. The Desrochers kids spent many overnights on Morris Avenue, in sleeping bags on the living room floor. And we all loved camping together at Colmer's Park. And let's not forget your great cooking and Banana Cream Pie! I am reminded of lots of laughs, tears, joy, and fun, and your boundless energy. Thank you for listening when I confided in you and for keeping it private between us. I love you, Denise - Posted by: Denise Desrochers (Niece) on: Oct 24, 2012

AUNTY JEAN, it is because of you that I am here today and my nine brothers and sisters. When you were attending school at the convent you met our mother, Theresa and became friends. She spent a weekend at home with you in Selkirk. Our Dad fell in love with our Mom at first site and the rest is sweet history. Thank you for that...Love you Lots.....I will miss you.....Give Dad a Big Hug from me. - Posted by: MARCELLE HORRICK (NIECE) on: Oct 23, 2012

Jean was always "Auntie Jean" to me and my family, and she was certainly one of my most favorite "aunts'. I have many wonderful memories of this warm and wonderful lady, including the fact that Jean gave my very first birthday party in my Mom's absence (she was in the hospital with brother Danny) and there was even money in the cake!!! So many great memories, thank you so very much Auntie Jean. We will all miss you so much and we know you will be in heaven to be with Uncle Walter and your families. - Posted by: Geraldine Keith (nee Buhr) (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2012

Dear Auntie: Lots of good memories of you in our lives. Your visits with uncle at 318 Morris Avenue and camping at Colmers Park. Visits at Christmas included skating on our outdoor skating rink. You always found a way to laugh at everything. It's hard to believe you are no longer with us, but will be joining uncle, Grandma and Grandpa Belanger and your brothers and sisters in a better place. Say "Hi" to Dad for us. - Posted by: Alane Cason (Niece) on: Oct 22, 2012

So sorry for your loss Louise/Hans. We have great memories of oma Jean. Especially the trip we took south when she beat Hans and I out of the caves we were exploring. She was a wonderful friend. - Posted by: Don & Gladys Klassen (Friends) on: Oct 22, 2012

Aunty Jean So many good memories as a child: Hockey night in Canada at our house on Saturdays, camping at Homer's Park, Christmases and New year's spent together, only to mention a few. Didn't see you as often as an adult but always enjoyed seeing you and spending time with you. You were so feisty and full of life. Will miss you. Aunty Jean It was just in August when you came skipping across the parking lot in the park to have our french fries at Napoleons. And again a few short weeks ago when we were on our break you stopped in for a visit and asked us when you were ever going to get your poutine you were waiting for. You sat and talked with us for quite a while. They were such nice visits and you looked so good. It is so hard to believe that you are no longer with us. You were such a big part of our lives growing up everyone on Morris Ave knew you as Aunty Jean. You will be truly missed...love Michelle - Posted by: Michelle Horanski (Niece) on: Oct 21, 2012
