STEPANYDA (STEFA) JACHNYCKYJ On October 27, 2012 the Lord called his faithful servant Stefa, aged 90 years, to eternal rest. Left to cherish her life are husband Dmytro, of 67 years, daughters Sylvia, Odarka and Theresa (Kelly), grandchildren Marc (Betty), Dahlia, Cristina (Petros), Phillip and Christopher, great-grandchildren Isabelle, Ava, Pentelis and Calista, niece and life friend Olga Skochelias, and goddaughter Lesia Dyck. She was predeceased by many family and friends. Born August 8 in Vinnitsia, Ukraine, Stefa's deep faith guided her throughout her life and helped her bear the hardship of the Holodomor leaving her orphaned as a child and also the Second World War, during which she and her niece Olga worked as forced labour in Germany. She met and married Dmytro in Hanover, Germany and later moved to Hildesheim. In 1953, together with their two daughters Sylvia and Odarka, Stefa and Dmytro immigrated to Canada eventually settling in Winnipeg where Theresa was later born. Stefa's values, tenderness and unwavering courage touched all who knew her. A devote Christian, she acknowledged her life as being in God's trusted hands and led a quiet life with optimism and perseverance. Devoted to her family, there was nothing she wouldn't do for their girls and grandchildren. She loved us all unconditionally and is our role model. Stefa created beautiful clothes without patterns and was an exceptional cook. She looked forward to having family over for dinner and her telephone chats with her daughters and grandchildren. Baba enjoyed times spent visiting with her grandchildren especially summer holidays, Christmas and Easter. Stefa nurtured God's creatures as she did her family and always ensured bread and water was left out for birds and strays. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to her care providers Irene, Kerrilyn, Anna, Krystyna, and home care nurses whose dedication to Stefa over the past several years helped her live out her life at home with Tato with dignity and grace. Prayers will be sung 5:30 p.m., Friday, November 2 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 12:30 p.m., Saturday, November 3 at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of Stefa, donations may be made to Sts. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
