Born: May 11, 1936
Date of Passing: Oct 29, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT GILBERT RACH May 11, 1936 - October 29, 2012 It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected yet peaceful passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Herbert Rach with his wife and family by his side on Monday October 29, 2012 at the age of 76 years. Herb is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Esther; son Murray (Malene), daughter Melissa, and son Keith; grandchildren, Amanda, Brett, Bryce, Jenna, and Emma. He is survived by his brother Gordon and sister Gladys. Herb was predeceased by his parents August and Elsie Rach, his brother Norman Rach, and sister Doreen Steinke. Herb was born in Thalberg, Manitoba on May 11, 1936 where he worked on the family farm until the age of 15. He then left for Winnipeg where he worked various jobs prior to beginning a successful career in construction. He began working at Simpkins Construction as an equipment operator, worked with BA construction as a superintendent, and finished his career with Mulder Construction. His passion in life was to love and care for his family. He experienced the greatest satisfaction when his family came home to visit and gathered around a bonfire in the backyard. He kept busy during his retirement by manicuring his yard which he took great pride in and ensuring everyone was taken care of, even during his final moments. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Selkirk, Manitoba (just South of Gerdau Steel). In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care. You are all in my and my three boys thoughts and prayers. One of the things that I will remember the most about Uncle Herbie is his laughter. I was honoured to have him as an uncle and godfather. He always had a solution for everything in his work and personal life. Hard to believe one so special is gone.... It brings me comfort to know that he is now with my Dad (his brother - Norman Rach) and my Aunt (his sister - Doreen Steinke) and grandma and grandpa. I will always remember those long summer rides he use to take us on always filled with his entertainment.....his laughter. Uncle Herbie you were one of those Uncles who always kept in touch with the rest of the Rach family and we are so grateful for that. I miss you already.... - Posted by: Debbie Caryk (God Daughter and niece) on: Nov 02, 2012

Definitely by far my favourite uncle, and in so many ways we share the same personality. It was great having him close to us when Mom passed in 2006, and now he can be together again with Mom, along with Uncle Norman, Grandma and Grandpa. Forever I will remember his infectious and memorable laugh, and how we could talk about anything. What a blessing it was to see him that one last time. I love you and miss you already Uncle Herbie. - Posted by: Neal (nephew) on: Nov 01, 2012

Uncle Herb's laughter and smile will remain in my memory. His ability to relate a story, with such infectious humor or assess a situation with a quick and sharp wit, was striking. My hope is that the love experienced with and through Herb, will carry you, Aunt Esther and children, through the days ahead. May Everlasting Peace and all the good memories bless, comfort, and keep you! - Posted by: Irene Ann Smolik (Niece) on: Oct 31, 2012
