Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • I apologize, I just found out about your passing from a old friend and student. Ms. Bergen, or Claudia, since I have graduated. I should thank you for all you have done, without that extra push. I wouldn't have made it, Ms. Bergen was full of life, she was passionate, confident and kind. You'll be missed, I'm sorry but I got a little emotional writing this. I do apologize for anyone to read this, it's hard to describe such a person Ms. Bergen was. I still have that gift you gave me when I departed from your class. Thank you Ms. Bergen. - Posted by: J. • This may seem late, but I just tried to call blessed Claudia. I didn't expect this at all. Dear Claudia, how dear and kind and loving you were. Fiercely protective of your friends and those who you felt were "the underdog." You were a very special lifestream, and I was privileged to have worked with you, been your roommate many years ago, and your friend. Thank you for being you! I will add also that Claudia was the most talented potter and artisan that I have ever seen work by. Even back in the 80's, she was making items of pottery that were so far beyond the times - exquisitely beautiful, functional and original. Claudia was a genuine one-of-a-kind, and a blessing and gift to everyone she knew. - Posted by: Jennifer Jamieson (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2014

  • Today I purchased an astoundingly gorgeous navy and aqua vase from the Winnipeg Art Gallery and discovered it was the work of Claudia Bergen. I was saddened to hear she recently passed away. What a lovely legacy she has left behind in her artwork. I am sorry I was never able to meet her, but I know I will enjoy this masterful work of her hands. - Posted by: Connie Epp (Purchased her pottery.) on: Nov 29, 2012

  • Claudia has been an old friend of mine since the 1970's. How can this be, this wonderfully enthusiastic woman who delved into life's offerings with her whole being. We had many long chats on the phone over the years and some great visits. I believe her students were her most ongoing passion. She cared deeply for them and was their best advocate. Pottery and pottery friends came next, I feel privileged to be one. Students, family, friends/colleagues, my heartfelt sympathy to you. Emulate what you loved best in Claudia. She would love that. • Claudia was a great friend when we both attended Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba, many years ago. I have only seen her a few times since graduation, but have thought of her often over the years. When I think of my University years, I think of Claudia. I will remember her as the funloving, spirited individual that she was, always ready for adventure, and always ready with a big smile. My sincere condolenses to her family. - Posted by: Sandra Sobkowich Wiebe (Fine Arts colleage at University of Manitoba ) on: Nov 04, 2012

  • I was shocked and saddened to hear of Claudia's sudden passing. As a fellow educator, I was privileged to participate in several lessons in clay art by Claudia and enjoyed her sense of humour, her enthusiasm and her great talent working with clay. Among other clay pieces, a plethora of clay mugs have been produced at my school as a result of her lessons. I offer my condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Lisa Sheridan (Colleague) on: Nov 04, 2012
