My deepest condolences to your family. I was so shocked to read Doug passed away. Yes, Doug was a very funny guy! We laughed alot together. So many years ago, Doug gave me his Yamaha guitar and guitar stand since he couldn't play anymore. What a gift that was and I still play it today. it will be even more special to me now! One evening, a few years ago, my co-worker and I ran into Doug and the next day while we were at work, a guy comes in and I said to my co-worker, "Doesn't he look like my friend we seen last night?" So the guy said "Oh, what was his name and when I told him Doug's name, he almost fell over, because it ended up that Doug was his brother! He will remember that. So I just wanted to say I wish you strength in the days to come. This is so sad. - Posted by: Ange (Friend) on: Nov 21, 2012

My condolences to the Church Family. I grew up with Doug, Greg Aulld, Larry Kaiser and Randy Dobson. Doug was one of the guys who took the wild ride on the Ferris Wheel with me and Greg and ended up in hospital. We used to play football by Kent Road School. He was a good friend and will be missed. Rest in Peace, Bugsy. - Posted by: Jim Morrison (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2012

My condolences to the Church family. Doug was an important team player in our company. Always willing to take on any job, travel to work anywhere, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and willing to work night or day. Just a quick call and he would update me on the NFL and NHL. Just too soon for you to leave. You will be missed my friend RIP - Posted by: Rick Wagner (Employer and Friend) on: Nov 14, 2012

After hearing the news and about 20 seconds of shock...a smile came to my face as a recount of all the hilarious memories started to flood my mind. When one's memory can bring a smile to your face after leaving us (far too soon), then that is one special individual and a legacy left that anyone would want when they move on to the next stage. Truly missed buddy, take care. - Posted by: Cliff (friend) on: Nov 14, 2012

Doug and I had been friends for almost 35 years. We played touch football, baseball, pool together and Doug also used to ref our beer league hockey games. During this time if laughing was money I would be a very rich man thanks to Doug. I once had to send Doug home because my stomach was so sore from laughing during the nite. Doug was always a class act as well as a good friend and will be deeply missed. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Scott Jackson (Friend) on: Nov 13, 2012

Doug was the kind of person who was funny, but dedicated to be the best at what he did. We worked on the road a fair bit. He used to have his Bible on his table. I can only imagine how funny heaven would be with him. My condolences, and best wishes to the family. Tim Moore - Posted by: Tim () on: Nov 12, 2012

My condolences to the family. Doug and I have been friends for over 30 years. He always made me laugh, his great sense of humour was second to none. We played touch football together for many many years, too many to count. Then when we got too old to keep up to the younger guys we played baseball. We were fortunate to play in a Las Vegas fun Co-ed slo-pitch charity tournament. We were also in Vegas this past April some of the highlights of the trip was seeing the show Beatles Love and our zip line experience down Fremont Street. We actually had another Vegas trip planned on Friday of this week. Over the last few years we started playing golf, Doug always had some funny comments when the ball did not go in direction we had planned. Doug you will be greatly missed, my life has changed forever. Rest in Peace my friend, I will think of you often. Don - Posted by: Don (Friend ) on: Nov 12, 2012

To my friend “Dougie Churchie”…..the first to make a joke, one of his favourite gags was the big league hand shake. So this is “Dougie” in heaven. Dougie walks up to Jesus, and grabs his hand, puts his other hand on his shoulder, and starts shaking Jesus’ hand wildly and says --"Welcome to the Big League son…..and now you go out there to do some good and make some saves". Your dad and I are watching. You’ll be remembered every time I hear a Beatles’ tune or see a Red Wing game…. Love David Coates & family. - Posted by: David Coates (co-worker) on: Nov 11, 2012

Sorry to hear about the loss of Doug. I remember all of Larry's old friends from Elmwood. I also remember all of the Church family, who lived just down the street from us. We have fond memories of Larry's dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. It is hard to lose a brother. Rest in Peace Doug. From Brenda (nee Kaiser) and family. - Posted by: Brenda Picklyk (Old Friend) on: Nov 11, 2012

Spoke with Doug last week, two days before my Step Dad's funeral. Doug used to come to the lake with us on the weekends and helped clear our lake side lot. We were 12 or 13 at the time. Always had fun. Grew up together in Elmwood. Used to hang around all the time with Doug, Randy Dobson, Jim Morrison and Larry Kaiser. Take care Bugsy... Just spoke with Doug last week. My step Dad, Will deWildt had just passed away and I wanted to let Doug know. Doug and I used to go out to our cottage lot when we were 12 or 13 years old for the weekends to clear the lot and water ski etc. Enjoyed a wonderful childhood with Doug, Randy Dobson,Jim Morrison and Larry Kaiser. The five of us were always together and always up to something. Hadn't seen Doug in many years but we planned to get together with the "boys" at Christmas time. I will miss him... take care Bugsy...
