AMY HORDO February 2, 1916 November 3, 2012 Amy Hordo was born in Winnipeg on February 2, 1916 to William and Mary Lucas. In 1919 the family moved to a farm near Atwater SK. As the oldest of a family of nine she had many responsibilities. At an early age she learned to milk cows, bake bread, sew and knit. In spite of the hard work and responsibilities there was much fun, she had many fond memories of her years growing up. In 1936, in the midst of the drought and depression she married Charles Louttit. Life on the farm was not easy but Amy made a loving home where all were welcome. She was a great cook and fine seamstress. These talents as well as her frugality, sense of humour and fun served her well. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, were part of her way of life, and to which she would have added Make-do and Do Without. In the late 1950s they moved to Winnipeg. Amy boarded students from United College and worked as a cook. In 1961, the year she became a grandmother, she achieved a lifelong dream when she graduated as a practical nurse. Her nursing career was spent at both Misericordia and Children's Hospitals. Retirement gave Amy time to enjoy curling and quilting. She won many prizes at the Red River Ex and St. Vital Fair for her quilts, sewing and baking. Her family treasures these many quilts so lovingly made. She enjoyed quilting with the quilters at Fort Garry United Church until she was 95. Family and friends were the centre of Amy's life. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by daughter Lenore (Bill) Linton, son Neil Louttit, stepchildren Michele (Mark) Hall, and Lyle Hordo, grandchildren David (Judy) Linton, Charlene Linton (Bill McKee), Lynnette (Jim) Miller, Spencer Louttit, great-grandchildren Philip Miller, Brenna Linton, Greame Linton, sisters Beth Cox, Florence Thompson, Kathleen Lucas, brother James (Joan) Lucas as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, USA and UK. She was predeceased by husbands Charles Louttit and Steven Hordo, sister Alice, brothers Arthur, Ted and Kenneth Lucas. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for Neonatal Care, 1660 Vimont Court Orleans ON K4A 4J4. Cremation has taken place, funeral service and interment will take place in Saskatchewan at a later date. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • It was nice to meet her and have known her. She was quite a remarkable lady and our son Stealth will have his baby blanket to keep in her memory which she made for him when he was born and still uses today as a memory and gift for him to treasure. She welcomed us into her heart and home and will be missed by all that new her. Another angel has risen and gone to heaven. - Posted by: Rob, Parris & Stealth Thompson (nephew of florence and his wife and child) on: Nov 16, 2012

  • I consider myself to be extremely lucky because I had the best sister anyone could ever ask for. Being 16 years older, she was able to provide care and guidance in my growing up years. She bestowed kindness and care that was beyond description. She was the rock that held the Lucas family together. She leaves a great void to those of us who are left. - Posted by: Jim Lucas (Brother) on: Nov 10, 2012
