Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROLAND BRODEUR It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Roland at Actionmarguerite (Taché Centre) on November 10, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Roland was born on December 3, 1919 in St. Boniface, the first of five children born to Lucie Br lé and André Brodeur. He grew up in St. Boniface where he attended Provencher School and became a member of the Provencher School Cadet Corps. Roland was extremely proficient with firearms and won several awards and medals in shooting competitions. At the age of 21, Roland joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and was sent to Portage la Prairie and then Val Cartier, Québec for training. When he was granted his first furlough, he returned to Winnipeg to marry Irene Toupin, his childhood sweetheart, on April 28, 1942. Roland served three years in the army moving across Canada from Québec to Red Deer, AB; Nanaimo, BC; Prince George, BC; and Barrie, ON before being posted to England. At the end of the Second World War, Roland returned to Winnipeg and went to work for the CNR. While he was employed there, he successfully completed a correspondence course on Television and Radio repair. For 14 years he worked for the railroad by day and repaired TVs and radios by night. In 1960, Roland went to work for the French radio station CKSB as their chief technician where he remained until his retirement in 1984. Roland and Irene were avid travelers throughout their lifetime and enjoyed many trips across Canada, the United States, Europe and the Orient. After their retirement, they spent five months each winter in Palm Springs, CA or Mesa, AZ with their friends. Roland is survived by his two daughters, Paulette Abraham (Maurice) and Suzanne Ross (Robert); four grandchildren, Michelle Delamere (Shawn), Richard Brodeur (Julie), Gilles Abraham (Brigitte), Guy Abraham; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Rowson and Patricia Rivard (Marcel) of Surrey, BC. Roland was predeceased by his loving wife Irene, to whom he was married for 68 years, and their son Denis, both in 2010; infant daughter Michelle in 1958; brother Lionel of BC and sister Rita Coyston of Winnipeg. Special thanks to the wonderful staff on 4ABC at Actionmarguerite for their compassionate care and support over the past two years. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Martyrs-Canadiens Parish, 289 Dussault Ave. Interment of the cremated remains will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery. Met Roland when Léo was au Centre Taché for a few months became quite close. Roland always was a good support and friend for Léo who suffered a stroke, the bond was immediate. That special smile exchanged between 2 men who both had lived their lives to the fullest but who belong to another generation. They had much in common.. - Posted by: Adèle et Léo Dubois (amis) on: Nov 14, 2012
