MIKE HOROBEC March 11, 1933 - November 18, 2012 It is with great sadness we announce that peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 Mike passed away at the age of 79 after a courageous, but short, battle with cancer. Mike was born in Vita, Manitoba on March 11, 1933 and left to pursue a rewarding career with the Canadian National Railway where he worked with great pride for 41 years from 1952 to 1993. Mike was an avid sports fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets but loved watching all professional sports. He was never more vocal and proud as when he was a spectator at his children's sporting events. Mike took great satisfaction and relaxation from his vegetable garden where he would toil for hours and nothing put a bigger smile on his face than dancing a polka in a room full of people. Mike was blessed to have many friends and family to share all of life's many turns. Mike leaves behind and will be dearly missed by his children Terry (Beth), Brian (Jody), Robert (Teresa), David (Kim), Michael (Jody) and Colleen (Tim); grandchildren Kyla, Grant, Eric, Braeden, Shanelle, Drew, Larissa, Morgan, Emma and Riley, and great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Lincoln. He will also be missed by his brothers John, Marko, Joe, Pete (Helen), sisters Marie (Kasmer), and Stella. Mike was predeceased by his father Mike, mother Helen, brothers Walter, Ostop, Paul, Bill and sister Anne. In keeping with Mike's wishes, a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. from Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Avenue. Cremation will follow. He will be laid to rest with his family at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Caliento, MB, close by Vita where his life began. Special thanks to all the staff on 7A West, St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Mike and of his family and friends. It made all the difference in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please forward any donation in Mike's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
