LARRY WALTER ARMSTRONG It is with profound sadness that the family announces the tragic death of Larry Armstrong, aged 88, and his companion of 21 years, Edna Rawluk on November 20, 2012. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Yvonne; son Brett (Vee); sister Irene (Russ); son-in-law Wally; sister-in-law Janet; Edna's sons Phillip (Nicole) and Richard. Also cherishing his memory are his grandchildren, Kim, Shane, Carrie (Terry), Shannon (Gary), Brent (Jen), Dean (Michelle), Chad, Jordy, Megan (Swaran), Karly (Eli), Ian and Alyssa (Kyle), along with 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Doreen, son Darrell, daughter Althea, daughter-in-law Deborah and his brother Donald. Larry was born on September 30, 1924 to Elva and Walter Armstrong in Morden, Manitoba. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1945 overseas where he was a warrant officer and a tail gunner in a Halifax bomber. He met his wife Doreen in northern Manitoba and they were married June 5, 1948 in Winnipeg. Larry worked for CNR as a machinist at Symington yards and Transcona shops up until his retirement in 1989. Doreen passed away in 1990 after 42 years of marriage. Honorary pallbearers will be his long-time friends Bob Podolsky, Steve Marchillo, Werner (the Rat) Schniederat, Ken Prychun and John Stolar. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Anglican Church, 227 McLean Avenue, Selkirk, Manitoba. Private interment will be held prior to the service at St. Clements Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a no kill animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
