JAKE LOEWEN Jacob (Jake) Loewen, age 89, of Altona, MB, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2012, at Eastview Place in Altona, predeceased by his beloved wife Marge. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in Altona with Rev. Stan Krahn officiating. Lunch will follow the service and then burial at Green Acres Cemetery in Winnipeg. Jake was born on the farm at St. Joseph, Manitoba on January 3, 1923. Jake was married to Margaret (Marge) (nee Dueck) on April 3, 1952. They were married for 53 years till Marge's passing on February 7, 2006. Jake worked much of his life as a carpenter and at the age of 50 started a lumberyard in Morris, MB. He ran the lumberyard until his retirement but continued his woodworking trade until illness prevented him from continuing just a few years ago. Jake was involved in community activities all his life and found great satisfaction in serving as a volunteer fireman in Morris. Jake is survived by his children, Gary Loewen (Diane), Ken Loewen (Alison), Lori Lewis (Brock), Rita Longclaws (foster daughter); grandchildren, Chris Loewen (Bonnie), Jenny Forth (Ian), Charlie Loewen, Jenny Loewen, Owen Lewis, Kaela Lewis; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Emily Loewen, Thomas and Gus Forth. Also surviving are his brothers Bill Loewen (Ann), Andrew Loewen, and sister Marie Stoesz (David); as well as many other brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Jake is preceded in death by his wife, Marge, two infant children, Linda and Glenda, and two sisters Helen Dueck and Elizabeth Dueck. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to any Christian charity or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family wishes to thank the staff at Eastview Place for their care of Jake in his final months. The family also wants to thank Bill and Anne Loewen, and Kim and Perry Bachelor for their love and kindness to Jake since he moved back to Altona.
