Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • 1987 we had a good time together. She was in my mind all the years. I´m so sad to hear now from her passing. I will never forget her, this beautiful strong lady! - Posted by: Ernst Garrels () on: Dec 15, 2014

  • Geri and I worked together at the Winnipeg Public Welfare Department in the early 70's. I left Winnipeg but we intermittently reconnected with each other over the years when I had occasion to return to Winnipeg. Then we lost touch. Now, with my retirement coming up in July, I have been planning one last trip to Winnipeg and have been using the internet to track down old friends, a task now much easier than it was even just a couple of years ago. Alas, I have finally tracked down Geri only to find her orbituary and I am sad that we will never have another opportunity to discuss old times and to catch up on each other. Together, we could always laugh at each other's foibles, as well as at our own. Geri was a good friend; nothing more, but certainly nothing less. Sic transit gloria mundi. - Posted by: Karl Pfeifer (Friend & former colleague) on: Feb 26, 2014

  • To Geri - Meegwetch for your friendship, wisdom, knowledge and compassion for your community. We had planned to have our gingerbread and tea over the holiday season, and I shall miss our chats, your wit and wry humour. We go back a long way, my friend, I shall keep you in my memory, always. My sympathies to your beloved family and Circle of friends. Ever your friend, Astrid - Posted by: Astrid MacNeill (Friend & Colleague) on: Dec 01, 2012

  • My very dear 'Parch', news of your passing sent shards of pain through my heart. Words can never say how profoundly sorry I am to lose you - it seems like yesterday we played in the sun at the Oasis, got 'parched' and went for a frosty! It seems like yesterday that we celebrated your wedding to Barnim. That we stood on podiums for justice. That we shared ghost stories with a circle of friends. Where did all the years go? You were the best friend when my lights went out - I just wish I could have been there for you. What a joyous reunion we had several months ago - we chatted like ole squirrels. That moment was a gift and I will treasure it forever. My very dear friend Geri - you were a beautiful, fun-loving and loyal friend. I admired your strength, your tenacity, your intelligence, and your activism for social justice. All with a great sense of humour! And I know how much you loved your family. I know that life was never easy for you but you fought through and slayed the demons. I rage against the forces that stole you from us. You were so brave and strong. Now may the universe cradle you in gentle peace. I will never forget you - your life, your story is etched into my heart. - Posted by: Emma LaRocque (friend) on: Nov 30, 2012

I was in the process of connected her and my husband as they grew up on the same street in Selkirk (Dufferin) in the 70's! RIP dear sweet lady! You will be sadly missed and thought of with great respect! AHO! Our thoughts are with you all! The SETTER family! - Posted by: Melanie Setter (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2012

  • Another person in my life has passed to the spirit world, this one shocked me as well, death is so unexpected...I will miss you Geri...we shared so many intimate life experiences...it was good to open up to someone who did not judge, mentored me, encouraged me, accepted me like a kindred, challenged me and supported me when I could not or it seemed like times when I was so alone in the world...you were my rock I love you forever Geri von Ramin...through my tears of sorrow I will never forget you, love you so much, kisses to you hope you caught them! - Posted by: Marie Anderson (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2012

  • I remember driving in the car with mom, you and Lesley and you started telling us what it was going to be like when we'd be grown up women. I turned so red and I didn't want to ever grow up. Your story made me laugh even now I blush. I liked listening to you speak Auntie. When I was having a difficult time recently and I needed some help sorting things out, you gave me great advice because you always were a strong woman. I'm proud to say I've grown up to be a strong woman too. - Posted by: Renee Brady (Greyeyes) (Niece) on: Nov 28, 2012

  • I can remember traveling to Selkirk to visit my aunt and her family in 1969. My cousin Dave was the same age as my younger brother Vince, who passed on a few years ago. We all ran away to live like Robin Rockethood in the bush that was actually just an overgrown empty lot at the time. We stayed overnight when they lived on Dufferin Avenue in 1972. We all watched a scary horror movie. Well, scary is relative when you're seven years old. I can recall so many Christmas memories and other holidays where I know she will be missed but never forgotten. - Posted by: Trevor Greyeyes (Nephew) on: Nov 28, 2012

  • Geri was an old friend of my family. I remember her as far back as when I was a little boy, when she would babysit me. She and my auntie Sherry were the best of friends, who shared an apartment together downtown. Geri, I know you wanted to be there at my wedding, but you will be there in Spirit and forever in our hearts, R.I.P. dear friend. - Posted by: Trevor Smith (family friend) on: Nov 27, 2012
