JAMES (JIM) ALEXANDER BONNER 1930 2012 James (Jim) Alexander Bonner, 82 years of Winkler, MB and formerly of Roland, passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Centre on November 29, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Pat); son Don (Lorna) of Winnipeg, Jennifer, Megan, Ryan; daughter Barb (Tom) Bannister of Manitou, Sydney and Ty; sisters Frances Phillips of Carman; Lorene (Ted) Kitching of Winnipeg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was born on a farm near Myrtle and then moved to his mother's family farm near Roland when he was 13. Jim proudly farmed here with his family until he retired in 1993. He was an avid plowman, and won several trophies while competing for many years at Portage La Prairie and in national competitions in Ontario. His competitive spirit continued as he found much satisfaction growing giant pumpkins that he entered in the Roland Pumpkin Fair. Jim was always there to help out friends and neighbours and took an active role in his local community as a member of the Ag Society, Roland Curling Club, Antique Tractor Club and Chamber of Commerce. In 1996, he and Pat retired in Winkler where they made many good friends and enjoyed going out for coffee daily. While hard work dominated his life on the farm, he very much enjoyed his retirement years. Jim made wine, expanded his musical talents from the accordion to the keyboard that he loved, and continued dancing as often as he could. He loved young children and enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow. He appreciated the company of several well-trained dogs and played with them like kids. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Maranatha Christian Fellowship 175 1st St. in Winkler with interment to follow at the Roland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler In care of arrangements, 204-325-4201 wiebefuneralhomes.com
