SYDNEY OLIVER HINDS 1921 - 2012 It is with great sadness on December 6, 2012 after long fights with numerous cancers, Sydney Oliver Hinds of 310-680 Kildare Ave., of Transcona, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital three months short of his 92nd birthday, at the age of 91. Sydney was born March 21, 1921 in St. Ann Jamaica and migrated to Winnipeg, MB Canada, in 1963, joined by his wife Catherine and their five children in 1964. He worked briefly for Kleysen's Transport, and then on to B.A Construction, where he stayed until his retirement in 1984. On his passing, he was married to his present wife Norma Burrowes. His entrepreneurship years were spent operating a restaurant in Dugald, MB. Sydney was very well respected by his children, and maintained a strong opinionated nature. He went with his gut feelings, and held strong to any decision he made, to his grandchildren, he was the voice of reason and a great ear. The advice he gave, and the stories he told of his youth back in Jamaica, and his life in Canada, could rival any top selling autobiographical novel. As a young Jamaican entrepreneur, he was a formidable mechanic, and even on his dying bed, was found offering mechanical advice to his son. Sydney loved a good joke and was a true prankster to the end. He is loved and missed by his immediate family: daughters Claudine (Dan) Thagard, Margaret Hinds, Sharon (Alex) Bidochka, sons Clive (Deborah) Hinds, Hubert Hinds. Grandchildren: Sean (Najoua) Hinds, Sonia (Jason Johannson), Erika Hinds, Poul Thagard, and Kiyana Bidochka, Great-grandchildren, Cormac, Liam and Ronin Johannson. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sydney's life will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium, 1800 Day street. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Cancer Care Foundation of Manitoba. Wheeler Funeral Home Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525
