JAMES (JIM) JOHNSON May 15, 1913 - December 5, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of James Johnson announces his passing. Dad was born in Winnipeg (Weston) and lived here all his life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elvie and daughter Jacqueline. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn (Wayne), grandchildren Bailey (Trevor), Brendan (Tricia), Matthew, Melanie, Julie and Shannon. Dad lived a long and interesting life. He rode the rails in the Depression, worked in relief camps and did just about anything so he wouldn't be a burden on his family. His introduction to Laclu, ON which eventually became the focal point of his life was when he worked on the construction of highway 641 and stayed at a friend's cottage. It is at Laclu where he met the love of his life, Elvie. They spent many summer and winter weekends and holidays enjoying the lake with their children and relatives. It was dad's favorite place in the world. He instilled the love of the lake into his family. The original cottage is still going strong. Dad was a veteran of the Second World War. He was an airplane mechanic stationed in Souris, MB. He told us that he had to be good at his job as he was an integral part of the test flight. Dad was a family man. Many happy years were spent skiing, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors together. After Elvie's passing, he took up and enjoyed curling and golfing. In his passing, Dad has left a void in our lives; however, he has left us with the blessing of his memory which we will hold dear forever. The family would like to thank Jim, Margaret and Piper for their weekly visits over the last few years. Dad was fortunate to have a neighbor who became an indispensable part of his life. Dave was a true friend and we thank him for that devotion. Theirs was a unique relationship and one that Dad cherished. Thank you, Dave. Thanks as well to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital (3 South) for their care and compassion. No memorial service will be held. These were Dad's wishes. Cremation has taken place. Donations in Dad's honour can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice. Although it has been many years since I have seen Uncle Jimmy as I used to call him I still have many fond memories as a child of him and the family at Christmas time at Grama Verna's. Uncle Jimmy was always joking around and making everyone laugh. They were great times with Uncle Jimmy, Aunty Elvie, Jacqueline and Marilyn and the rest of the Johnson Family. My belated condolences to you Marilyn and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Rosemary Parmley (related through marriage.) on: Dec 30, 2013

I'll never forget the fun we had on the island at Laclu. Uncle Jim and Aunt Elvie were big parts of that. While I have not been close to Winnipeg relatives for a long time, it doesn't seem a distant memory. - Posted by: Paul Striowski ("Cousin in law?") on: Dec 08, 2012

Uncle Jim was my favourite uncle on the island. He treated all of us kids not as a parent/child relationship but a friend and always took a true interest in all of our activites. His smile and laugh encouraged everyone to do the same. It is what I do in my life now. Thank you Uncle Jim, you will always be a high in my life at Laclu. - Posted by: Ronn Striowski (nephew in law) on: Dec 08, 2012
