BRIAN BLANCHFIELD At the age of 64, Brian Blanchfield lost his battle with lung cancer and passed away in his home on November 30, 2012. Brian was born in Timmins Ontario, July 7 1948 to Lorne and Marion Blanchfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Shirley (Horbas), his son Dale, daughters Sandy (Tony), Tanis (Rick), his precious grandchildren Brandon, Braydon, Kiara and Arianna, his brother Larry (Madeline) as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Brian was predeceased by both his parents and his in-laws. Brian grew up in Sprague, MB. After high school he attended College in Thief River Falls, MN where he received his diploma in Auto Body Repair. However, it was with Manitoba Highways Department that he knew his career would be. Brian worked several positions with highways before taking the position as Beat Foreman in Hadashville in 1981. For the next 27 years Brian took pride in his position spending countless hours trying to ensure the roads were the safest they could be for travel until accepting a Maintenance Superintendent position in Steinbach in 2007. Brian was planning on retiring July 2013. Brian was a happy, friendly man that had an infectious laugh and a generous heart. He took pride in many things including his career, his family, his home, his hobbies and helping out those that needed. He was always looking out for others even when he was nearing the end of his battle. Brian was looking forward to another year of deer hunting but his illness left him too weak to do so. He was looking forward to one last family Christmas but was taken weeks too soon. Brian's kind hearted personality will forever be missed by many. A celebration of Brian's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Brian's name to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Steinbach Community Cancer Program, Bethesda Hospital, 316 Henry Street Steinbach, MB R5G 0P9 in hope that a cure will soon be found.
