MARIE KOLIDA
Born: Aug 03, 1931
Date of Passing: Dec 16, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIE KOLIDA With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marie Eugenie Janine Kolida. She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter, her mother and father Albert and Albertine Parisien, brothers Felix and Edmond, and sister Maryanne. She leaves behind her sister Sally Skoblack, brothers Marcel, Emile, Marcelin (Eunice), and brother Ozias (Clara). She also leaves behind her dear long-time friends and sisters-in-law Anne Sidley and Kaye Greene plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Eugenie was born August 3, 1931 at Sandilands, MB. She was one of a family of nine. She came to Winnipeg at a young age and took up hairdressing. She started a business in her home that she ran for 35 years. She married Walter on February 25, 1958 and they spent 50 years together. They enjoyed everything together, cross country skiing, swimming and travelling. Their travels took them to many points in the world. They saw Hawaii, The Canary Islands, Las Vegas and Alaska to name a few. When they retired they enjoyed many trips in their motor home and could often be found at a casino in the states. She loved the casinos and bingo. But most of all she enjoyed cooking, and anyone who had the opportunity to visit can tell you she made the best pies ever. Her health began to give out a few years ago and she had to depend on help from her brother Marce, sister Sally, sisters-in-law Ann and Eunice and special friends Sally Percheson and Stefie Gill. They were her strength through all of her trying days. Her last two and a half months were spent in Concordia Hospital where she underwent two rounds of surgery and lost her leg above the knee. Through all this she remained cheerful, with Eunice and Marce by her side and talked of life ahead to the last day. However, it was not to be and on Sunday, December 16, 2012 she lost her battle. To the staff at Concordia Hospital you are an exceptional team and we truly appreciated everything you did for her. She could not praise you enough. Respecting her wishes cremation has taken place and a private celebration of her life was held, with interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's name to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525

We bought our first house next to Jean and Walter, in 2004. Sadly, not too long after, Walter passed. However, Jean was still an amazing neighbour. We would talk to her through the fence or I would have her mail by mistake, and would bring it over. We would often see her and Steffie sitting on their lawn chairs in her driveway. Both super women to have as neighbours. We just noticed her house was empty, and had no idea she passed last month. Wish we could have seen her one more time. We couldn't have asked for a better neighbour and will miss her. Our condolences to the family. - Posted by: Jesse G. (Former next door neighbour) on: Jan 18, 2013

Aunty Jean was a very generous and kind person. She was always thinking of others. This past June when I visited her and her health was failing, she insisted on visiting her sister-in-law Kaye one day and her sister-in-law Ann the next. I have wonderful memories of the times that we spent together. I will never forget them or you, Aunty Jean. - Posted by: Carol Riebeek (niece) on: Dec 26, 2012

A great aunt who will be sadly missed. Always there with cooking advice and goodie bags to take home after a visit with her, cabbage rolls, perogies, pastry and my favourite her carrot cake. So kind and thoughtfull to everyone. Love and miss you. - Posted by: Peter, Cathy, Curtis Schneider and Christie Ens (Nephew Wife and Family) on: Dec 21, 2012

We will miss you Aunty Jean and you were one of the best Aunties. Now you have joined up with the rest of the family and can continue the card games you all liked to play together. - Posted by: Linda and Gary Rozmus (Niece and her husband) on: Dec 21, 2012

I grew up across the lane from Jeanie and had many, many occasions for her to do my hair. I remember Jeanie as a lovely lady, always so full of fun and life, always a smile on her face. My condolences to her family, truly a loss. - Posted by: Leslie (Sebastian) Hardy (Neighbour while growing up) on: Dec 21, 2012
