  • I first met Laura many years back when she worked at the Sears outlet in Selkirk. I was pregnant with my first child. I didn't know Laura all that well outside of my trips to retrieve my orders, so you can imagine my surprise when one afternoon shortly after the birth of my son, Laura showed up at my front door. She had read the birth announcement in the Journal and asked her mother to make a very small pair of mukluks for Steven. Steven is 14 years old now. The mukluks are, where they have always been since the day Laura gave them to him, in his sock drawer. God bless you Laura. You have a very special soul. - Posted by: Patti Simko (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2012

  • I knew Laura also growing up, she was very kind and always had a smile on her face. Later on, she became an EA, and she worked in my school and we always had something to talk about. She had told me she had met the love of her life and that she was soo happy. I was soo happy for her, things were falling into place for her. Laura will be missed by everyone, and my thoughts and prayers are with you Maria and Morgan. RIP Laura.... - Posted by: Roberta Hardwick (Co-worker/acquaintance) on: Dec 28, 2012

  • From the first time our family met Laura, we all knew that she was to become part of our family. She jumped right in and got involved in family gatherings, showed her patience, love and kindness for all of us. Her thoughfulness was shown through her actions, a special card, hug, treat. She listened to what mattered to each person and remembered. We had many happy gatherings, such as an impromptu BBQ at Julianna and Waynes or at home on the deck overlooking the lake, at Hnausa Park, Thanksgiving in Winnipeg, and Christmas celebrations. Laura considered everyone and made each of us feel special. For that, we will always remember her with our deepest love and thankfulness for being part of our lives. We are especially thankful for the happiness and new family that she brought to Franklin. We had so much pleasure watching their love grow and are so happy for the time they had together. - Posted by: Franklin's family (Franklin's family) on: Dec 27, 2012

  • Mrs. Bear my thoughts are with you and Morgan. Laura was one of the most positive people I have ever met, she saw good every where. It was like when Laura said it was gonna happen you just hung on and waited for it to come true. She seemed to know when we would get extra recess and she knew if she waited she would find the love of her life and it made my heart jump to see it happen and her complete happiness! I will miss my old friend... - Posted by: Lisa Goss (Feyereisen) (Life long friend...) on: Dec 27, 2012

  • We attended Icelandic camp together as children. I was very young and you were 4 years older than me and you took special care to lead me around and be my friend. I distinctly remember you carrying me on your shoulders in the lake because you were so strong. Decades later I moved back to the interlake to raise my kids and I would bump into you from time to time and it was always pleasant and nostalgic. A couple of years ago you pulled into a driveway at Hnausa asking for directions to Franklin's house. I said "is that Laura Bear?" (I wasn't wearing my glasses) and we both laughed at the coincidence. - Posted by: Asi Asmundsson (friend) on: Dec 23, 2012
