CONCETTA GRANDE Peacefully, with her family by her side, Concetta Grande was called to the heavenly father on December 22, 2012. Left to cherish her memory are her children Maria Cianflone, Giovanna Buoncore (Saverio); Antonio Grande (Angelina); Saverina Anania (Giuseppe); Francesco Grande and daughter-in-law Lina Grande of Kelowna, BC. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Francesco (Teresa), Giuseppe (Sara), Mariastella and Antonio (Carmela) Cianflone; Coni (Carlos), Joey (Elvira), Rocco and Carmelino Grande; Giuseppe (Rosa), Angela Hrabchak (Ken), Concetta and Francesco Buoncore; Concettina (Shawn) and Serafina Grande; Angelo and Caterina (Andreas) Anania; Giuseppe and Concetta Grande as well as her great-grandchildren Pietro, Mariella, Ciarra, Matteo, Selena, Pietro, Giovanna, Saverio, Luca, Jennifer, Connor and Antonio. She also leaves behind her sister Giuseppina Caligiuri, sister-in-law Giuseppina Grande, brother-in-law Giuseppe Falvo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Concetta was predeceased by her parents Antonio and Maria Gagliardi, husband Giuseppe, sons Pierino and Pietro, daughter-in-law Lina Grande; son-in-law Pietro Cianflone; sisters Giovanna Motola, Caterina (Carmine) Scarpino, Francesca (Antonio) Torchia, brother Tommaso (Caterina) Gagliardi; and in-laws Maria and Pietro Grande, Francesco Grande, Dominic Caligiuri and Rachela Falvo. Concetta was born in Amato, Catanzaro, Italy on December 16, 1921. In her early years she was educated by "moniche" (nuns) which had instilled in her a passion for learning and a devotion to God. Throughout her life, she was committed to her Catholic faith and San Francesco di Paola. Whether it was knitting, cooking, writing or innovating, she took great pride in teaching and perfecting her crafts. In 1940, she married her husband Giuseppe. Together, they happily raised a very close and loving family who eventually immigrated to Winnipeg in 1965. There her Grande family grew larger as her children married and had families of their own. Throughout the years, Nanna found tremendous joy in babysitting her grandchildren, visiting with her great-grandchildren and passing on Amatese traditions to them. As per Concetta's wishes, the pallbearers will be her grandsons, Francesco, Giuseppe and Antonio Cianflone, Joey, Rocco and Camelino Grande, Giuseppe and Francesco Buoncore, Angelo Anania and Giuseppe Grande. We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the caring staff at the Misericordia Place. Prayer service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with the Mass of the Resurrection to be held on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Entombment to follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Manitoba. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Concetta was a woman of great faith and had a deep love for God. I remember seeing her at church many times praying ferverently. Although we are sad, Concetta is happy fore she is with our Heavenly Father as well as with her numerous friends and family members. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Grande family. Though distance does not allow me to be with you, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. A highlight of my week was accepting a hand shake and a kind word from this kind and beautiful woman at church on Sunday mornings.
