MATTHEW FRANCESCO GRESTONI
Born: Feb 10, 1987
Date of Passing: Dec 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMATTHEW FRANCESCO GRESTONI February 10, 1987 December 24, 2012 Tragically on Christmas Eve morning, Matthew was suddenly taken from us. He leaves to cherish his memories and dreams Mom and Dad - Jacquie and Dom, brothers Sean (Megan Falk) and Paul, sister Rebecca, Nonna Gina Grestoni, Grandfather Gary Sanderson (Fran McGuire) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends. He was predeceased by Nonno Gilberto Grestoni and Grandmother Irene Sanderson, both whom Matthew treasured and is now in their care. Matt was born and lived in the St. Boniface area his entire childhood. He attended Van Bellingham elementary, graduated from College Beliveau and played hockey at Southdale community club making many lifelong friends along the way. He went on to get his business administration diploma at Red River Community college but decided while he liked wearing sharp suits, he wasn't cut out for working in an office. He eventually found his niche working at Shaw with the help of his friend Vic. Matt worked hard and with the same energy he put into all the things he cared about. He was a talented guitar player and enjoyed story telling with gusto, especially with a bit of stretching to make it more interesting to laugh about or get your attention. He was always a free spirit determined to do things mostly his way and not afraid of any obstacles. This was especially true when it came to cars and always counting on Sean to help him out with making it right. From a very young age his sense of adventure was evident at the lake frog hunting and saying "mom and dad let's go, there is a bigger one out there just waiting" and the joyous shrieks when that elusive big one was spotted. He proudly sported his first "rat" tail haircut and proclaimed himself frog hunter. We have many fond memories of Matthew growing up with his partners in mischief Chris McKenzie and Graham Murray. We enjoyed many summers at the lake and the ongoing adventures there and our first family trip to Italy in the teenage years. He then became even more proud of his Italian heritage, noting that the girls liked Italians better. He loved his Nonna dearly, especially her cooking and attention and always responded to her advice with "don't worry Nonna, it will be okay, I know what I'm doing, I'll be good". The first thing you would notice about Matthew was the sparkle in his eyes, his radiant smile and of course some outrageous joke or story. He loved to celebrate life and win at cards and make new friends. Thank you to all Matt's friends that have expressed their sorrows and a special thank-you to your friend Vic for his support and friendship over the years. Your friends and family will miss you dearly G, and remember you always as you now watch over them. The world is less bright without you in it. You were a precious gift for us and will always be missed until we are reunited. Love forever, Mom, Dad, Sean, Megan, Paul and Rebecca. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road. Rev. Father Fred Olds officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2. Dom and Jacquie Donna and I cannot sufficiently express our sorrow at the passing of your son Mathew. Our kids met years ago on a beautiful summer's day at you're Minaki cottage. As I recollect, the kids had a great day being kids - swimming in the lake and fishing off a surf board. I thought of that wonderful day and the generosity of the Grestoni family, as I read the your beautiful tribute to Mathew. Our thoughts are with you.
