OLIVE FERLAND (nee TETREAULT) On Thursday, December 27, 2012, after a lengthy illness, Olive left this world, calmly and in peace, the way she had lived in it. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Paulette Rochon (Fern) and daughters-in-law Elaine Toews and Debra Blakely, her grandchildren, Kerry, Jeremie (Sonia), Serge, Danick (Stéphanie), Stéfan, Lee-Anne (Pascal), Bryce, Katherine and Erin, as well as her great-grandchildren, William, Danielle, Raphaelle and Juliette, her brothers and sisters, Jeanne Mousseau, Irma, Oril (Fleurette), Rachelle Hausauer, Claude (Vicky), and Yvon (Robin), her sister-in-law Doris Tétreault and brother-in-law Alphonse (Smokey) Ferland (Georgette). She was predeceased by her husband Joseph (Jos.), her beloved sons Ronald and Dan, her parents, Olivier and Marie Louise, her brothers, Lucien, Jean and Paul, and her sisters, Irene, Louise, Georgette and Clairette. Olive was born November 15, 1924. She grew up in the small rural community of Ste. Anne, MB, at the heart of a loving, close-knit family of 14. She never hesitated to share memories of her happy childhood and with a smile, lovingly told her many stories of days gone by. Olive's passion for learning and challenging herself mentally' was life-long. It was that, coupled with her love of children, which led her to a career in teaching, always choosing the elementary grades and always choosing employment in private, Catholic schools. How she treasured her students. Olive married Jos. December 27, 1947. They were blessed with three children and 60 years together. It's true there were few working moms in those days; but being a teacher gave her (and us) our summers together. She was always game for family camping trips and car rides and of course Sunday stops at the Dairy Queen. She relished every minute with her family. She was a good sport and a strong role model who taught us the value of a positive attitude and that thinking the best of others was the only way to think. She made the best out of every situation and gave us the great gift of laughter. Olive was forced to leave teaching when in mid-life her health began to fail. True to her nature, she was thrilled to re-train as a key-punch operator, but it was when she landed a job as librarian in the St. Boniface School of Nursing that she felt she had won the lottery. She worked there, happily surrounded by books and projects, until her retirement. We will remember Olive for her beautiful smile, her happy disposition, her positive outlook on life, her great, great kindness and strong, unwavering faith. The family wishes to thank the staff at Villa Youville, in particular Sister Rioux and staff of Unit B for their kind, compassionate care of Olive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Villa Youville Inc., 15 Charriere Road, Ste. Anne, MB R5H 1C9.
