LILIAN ADINE WONG March 31, 1938 - December 28, 2012 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom and grandmother, Adine Wong on December 28, 2012. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Carr Wing (Ralph) Wong and her brother Russell Brown. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ralph and Caterina of Winnipeg, grandchildren Natalia and Noah; son Ian and Bilge of Toronto, granddaughter Sule. Mom is also survived by her brothers Neville Brown, Paul Brown and sister Caroline Richards, nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom. Mom was born in South Shields, England the eldest child and big sister to her four siblings. She met our father, a handsome and dashing young marine engineer officer at a dance in England. Dad was born in Calcutta, was of Chinese descent and despite the cultural and religious barriers that existed in the 1950s, they married. Mom travelled extensively throughout the world in a small tramp steamer officered by our father visiting many countries including China during the Cultural Revolution and Vietnam during the war. The arrival of her children did not deter her love of travelling. We were often bundled onto a 24 hour flight to Hong Kong to meet dad's ship to begin another series of adventures. In 1969 mom and dad decided to leave England for a new life in northern British Columbia. There, mom rapidly adapted to her new surroundings first becoming a School Trustee, then Justice of the Peace and R.C.M.P. prison guard. We always knew that if we got into any trouble that mom would hear of it often before we even got home. Above all she was proud of what her family had achieved and was devoted to her grandchildren. After dad's passing she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In keeping with mom's wishes cremation has already taken place. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in mom's memory to the charity of your choice. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. • Dear Ralph and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know your Mom had not been well and was getting on in years - it doesn't matter. It is incredibly hard and sad. Sounds like Lillian had a rich and exciting life and you will have lots of fond memories. So glad she got one more Christmas with her family. My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Tami Crawley () on: Jan 03, 2013
