ELVIRA GENTILE (nee BUCCINI) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother Elvira Buccini Gentile. On January 2, 2013, with her family by her side Elvira passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Elvira will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children Cesare (Leslie), Lorenza (Bob), Germana (Tom), Pietro (Marlene), and Laura; sister Flora; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Elvira was predeceased by her beloved husband Giovanni; parents Grazia and Carmelo, siblings Antonio, Eleonora, Inessa, Settina and Ida and son-in-law Renzo Stangherlin. Elvira was born on May 24, 1922, in the beautiful village of Villalago (AQ), Italy. She immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1953 with her four young children to join her husband and worked together to build a good life for their five children. Mom was a busy homemaker for the early part of her life. She owned and operated Elvira's Grocery on Ellice Avenue from 1964 to 1975. After all of this hard work, she and Dad retired to their hometown of Villalago where they built a beautiful home and lived from 1975 to 1989. After Dad's death in 1989, Mom returned to Canada, enjoying the rest of her retirement years with her close knit family. Never idle, Mom was busy every moment of her life, even in retirement, whether it was cooking meals on a moment's notice, crocheting, gardening, propagating plants or bundling up firewood. She was an ace recycler, long before it became fashionable, repurposing used items into new, beautiful ones. Elvira also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, but most of all sharing stories of her past and chatting with family. Family and faith were very important to Mom, and she instilled the values of love of family, loyalty, faith in God, and hard work in her children. Mom was a true original, a loving mother, and she will remain in our hearts forever. We'd like to thank Mom's homecare workers from whom she received excellent care and friendship during the last five years, as well as the doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital. A private family funeral with Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, a donation may be made to Connect Employment Services, 188 Goulet Avenue, or a charity of your choice.
