DUECK September 25, 1931 - January 3, 2013 Jake lived on the CB Loewen farmstead for 62 years, farming it with his wife Doreen for 45 years. After retirement, Jake and Doreen moved to Rosenort where they lived until 2010. Jake spent his last two years in Winnipeg and passed away on January 3, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 81 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Anna Dueck, and his parents-in-law, Jacob and Mary Brandt. Much more recently, in 2010,he suffered the loss of his wife Doreen, after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his three daughters and their families: Wanda (Dale Klassen); Denise (Brent Unrau) and children Sara (Daniel Stewart) and Tristan Unrau; and Candace (Darryl Wylie) and children Brenten, Brandon and Anna Wylie; his brother Andrew and sister-in-law Esther and their children; and four brothers and sisters-in-law and their families. Jake will always be remembered as a faithful, generous and hardworking man who gave of his skills and time in many ways: he served his church, and gave many hours to both Mennonite Disaster Service and Mennonite Central Committee. He taught his daughters to grow up respecting their elders, to work hard at the tasks they were given, and to use their resources with care and thoughtfulness. He was a faithful husband, working with his wife Doreen as a partner on their farm, and later, caring for her tirelessly when she struggled with rheumatoid arthritis. He will be missed by many who remember his welcoming voice, firm handshake, and embracing hugs. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverwood Square, Victoria General Hospital (5th Floor), and, particularly, the staff on Unit B1 at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and care for Dad. A service celebrating Jake's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosenort Evangelical Mennonite Church, 509 River Road S., Rosenort. A private family interment will take place prior to the service. Viewing will take place at Morris Funeral Home on Friday, January 11, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. I feel for your loss. Got to know Jake and Doreen for only a short time when my mom (Claire) was at the Heritage at same time as Jake and Doreen. My mother and Doreen both suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. They understood each other and quickly became friends. I remember Jake as a very kind and friendly man.
