LILLIAN JEAN WOODWARD (née JACKSON) Peacefully, at the Tiger Hills Personal Care Home, Treherne, Manitoba, on January 5, 2013, at age 84 years. She is survived by sons Mervin (Ruth) and Garth, both of Winnipeg, brother Kelly Jackson and sister-in-law Lorna of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by Albert "Woody" Woodward, her husband of 63 years, on April 13, 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents, sisters Lolla (Doug Robertson) and Gertrude (Stan Whalen), both of Treherne, and brothers Jim Jackson of Saskatoon, Irvine (Edna) Jackson of Ontario, Archie (Ellen) Jackson of Treherne, Duncan (Thelma) Jackson of Holland and Treherne, Arthur (Iris) Jackson of Wetaskiwin and Red Deer, AB, and Myles (Nellie) Jackson of Wetaskiwin, AB. Lillian was born October 5, 1928 in Tisdale, SK, the youngest of the ten children of Alexander Irvine Jackson and the former Gertrude E. Longden, both originally from Holland, MB. The family returned to Manitoba in 1935 to farm in the Matchettville district north of Treherne. Lillian attended the Matchettville School and Treherne High School. On November 4, 1948, at age 20, she married Clarence Albert Woodward of Lavenham. He had served in Europe during the Second World War. They lived near Lavenham and then in Winnipeg, moving to Treherne in 1950. Lillian enjoyed music, car rides in the country, and going out for ice cream. She also loved dancing, but this was sadly cut short in October 1955 when Lillian and her son Mervin both contracted polio. Lillian was 27 and Mervin was only three. After many months in hospital in Winnipeg, they returned to Treherne. Several years later, their son Garth was born. Life was never easy for Lillian but she overcame her difficulties, and was never one to complain. She carried on with her housework and raising two children as best she could. She was often seen driving around Treherne, Holland and the surrounding area. In 2011 Lillian moved to the Treherne Personal Care Home. She greatly enjoyed her time there. The family extends heartfelt thanks to staff for their loving care. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Treherne United Church with Rev. Quentin Robinson officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the lower hall of the church. Interment will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the Rossendale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garry and Gordon Whalen, and Ronald, Grant, Murray, and Mackenzie Jackson Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
