IRENE MILES (nee ANTONICK) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Miles at the Selkirk General Hospital on January 9, 2013. Irene is survived by her devoted husband Michael with whom she celebrated 52 years of marriage this past November. Also surviving is her dearest sister Evelyn, aunt Lucille Oleschuk, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Irene graduated from the University of Manitoba and spent her working years as a teacher. She was active in community life having served for 16 years on the Selkirk General Hospital Board and on her church council. Michael and Irene were world travellers until just a few years ago. An athlete, she enjoyed speed skating, downhill and cross country skiing. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. We wish to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt and the Selkirk Palliative Homecare staff for their excellent care during Irene's illness. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk with Fr. Stan Gacek officiating. Interment will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Dear Mike. I am sorry to hear of Irene's passing. Growing up in St. Andrews I have fond memories of both you and Irene. Irene was such a gracious person. She always made me feel special. Always took interest in what I was doing and where I was headed in life. I came across a fabulous picture of you and Irene taken at my parent's home. I was just born and Irene was holding me and feeding me my bottle. Take comfort that Irene is not suffering anymore. God's Blessing to you. May Irene Rest in Peace. • Mrs. Miles. You were a fair and good teacher and that these days is a rare find. Nowadays the teachers are just not the way they use to be. No-one really seems to take the time and care. You did and I thank you for that. Now May you Rest in Peace and be with God after all you have done for mankind. God Bless - Posted by: Renate ( Lohr ) Gardy (pupil) on: Jan 12, 2013
