Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER PRUSS November 11, 1919 - January 7, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather at the age of 93. Walter will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his children Linda Coard (Rod), Colleen Bernier (Edward), grandchildren Sheri Coard (Andy Mair), Lindsay Toth (Szabi), great-grand-children Kaitlyn, Abigail and Emily Mair and Layla Toth. Walter was predeceased by his wife Catherine in 2010, parents Dmytro and Katarina Pruss, sister Ann, brothers Paul, Peter, Steve and John. Walter was born in Fisherton and farmed with his parents and brothers. He enlisted in the army in 1942, was taken prisoner of war in 1944. Once the war was over he then came back to farm in Fisherton. He married Catherine Melville on February 4, 1955 and raised their two children on the farm. Dad was very involved with the Royal Canadian Legion #158 in Hodgson. He held many positions: waiter; Sergeant of Arms; and treasurer. He was very proud and honored to be President and Zone Commander for many years as the Legion meant the world to him. When Dad and Mom retired they continued to live on the farm for a few years but due to health issues moved to the Assisted Living in Arborg. From there they then moved to the Arborg Districts Personal Care Home, then in July of 2012 he moved closer to home - the Fisher Branch Personal Care Home. Memorial service will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Fisher Branch, with Father Darius Biliran officiating. We would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Percy Moore Hospital for their care over the last few days. So sorry for your loss. Your memories will last forever. My memories are of your Dad making hay in the summer time next to our farm, dropping Colleen off to spend time combing my old horse's mane until it shone. The times he and your Mom at the Legion with Aunt Dot and Uncle Phil they had such great times together. As Legion Pres. how handsome he was in his uniform, the birthday cakes for him on Remembrance Day. How proud he was of his family. Take care and know that many are thinking of you at this sad time. - Posted by: Diane Senkow (Switzer) (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2013
