OLGA SIE
Born: Jul 06, 1921
Date of Passing: Jan 16, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA SIE With her family at her side, Olga Ollie Sie peacefully passed away on the evening of January 16, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, her sister Emily, her brothers Joseph and Walter, and her daughter-in-law Judy. She will be missed by her sons Daniel (Norma), Raymond, and James, grandchildren Kevin (Jody), Colin (Christine), Trevor, Winter (Lawrence), Stuart, and Jenna, and great- grandchildren Moira, Theo, and Grayden, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ollie was born July 6, 1921, the daughter of Phillip and Tekla Ozero (nee Hryciw) in Winnipeg. She started her working life at Style Hair Dressers in 1939, and enjoyed her 12 years there. She met Peter in 1944, and married him in 1945. Olga left the salon in 1951, and settled in the North End. She later worked out of her home while raising her family. Ollie was involved in the ladies auxiliary of the C.U.A.C. (community club) for 10 years, including President, while her children participated in various sporting activities. She volunteered with the March of Dimes for a few years and took a lead role in their community fund raising efforts. Ollie was involved in the St. Chrysostom and St. Barnabus Churches. She volunteered at Holy Family Home, donating her hair styling talents for the residents and serving on the ladies executive for 35 years. Ollie and Peter bought a lot and built a cottage at Falcon Lake in the 1950s where she spent every summer with her boys and later with their families. She developed many friendships in Block 10 and around the Lake. Adults and children alike were always made to feel welcome in her homes. She enjoyed making Ukrainian ethnic dishes and pastry, and her family and guests relished in eating them. Ollie and Peter enjoyed travelling and went on many winter vacations to Portugal, Mexico, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, via cruises. They also tried their luck with bus trips to the northern Minnesota casinos. After Peter passed away, Ollie graduated to the big time and took several trips to Las Vegas first with her son, wife and mother-in-law Bertha, and then with her three sons. She proved to be the big winner on most occasions. One of her Vegas highlights was spending the night with her new friends, the Chippendales. She doesn't remember but the pictures don't lie (Thanks Jim). Ollie moved out of the North End in 2001, and settled into the Portsmouth Senior's Residence until her passing. She made many new friends there. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Grace Hospital, 4 South for their gentle and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held, later in April, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 2, 2013, at Korban Funeral Chapel 907 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olga's memory to a charity of your choice. I remember spending time visiting at their home. There was always yummy food. I also have fond memories of Falcon Lake and the cottage...watching hummingbirds outside the windows, smoked fish, and swimming in the lake. My best to the family. - Posted by: Derek (Grandson to her sister, Emily and son to her Niece Evelyn.) on: Mar 15, 2013

Sincere condolences to the family. Ollie was a wonderful friend to my mother, Kay Preston, at the Portsmouth for 10 years. She was so generous to both my mom and my daughter Jessica, making perogies for them on many occasions. I hope they are together again reminiscing about the old times. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Sincerely Pat Harper - Posted by: pat harper (daughter of Kay Preston, former Portsmouth resident) on: Jan 23, 2013
