WILLIAM HENRY (BILL) POLLOCK December 6, 1946 January 29, 2013 Peacefully, in his sleep, at Oakview Place on January 29, 2013, Bill passed away at the age of 66. Bill leaves behind his devoted wife, Karen; sons William (Jennifer) and Robert; his grandson, Jackson; his brother, Larry (Eileen), two nieces and two nephews. Bill also leaves to mourn other family and many close friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Barbara. Bill was born in Winnipeg, the oldest of three siblings, and attended elementary and secondary schools here. After graduation in 1964, he served two years in the Canadian Army in Petawawa, ON. Following release from the army he worked at Deer Lodge Centre as an orderly. In 1973 he moved to Brandon where he completed the Psychiatric Nursing Program. He worked for a couple of years at Brandon Medical Health Centre, then returned to Winnipeg and worked in a nursing home. In 1978 Bill and Karen married in Brandon, honeymooned in Memphis, then took up residence in Winnipeg. Bill graduated from the Registered Nursing program at Red River Community College in 1979. He also took some post-graduate courses in Nursing Administration. Bill was anxious for a family. William Jr. in March of 1979 and his brother, Robert, completed the family in 1981. Bill loved to take his boys to the Assiniboine zoo, loved having a pool and having people over for a barbecue, loved going fishing, and loved spending three days making food for his friends and family to share at Christmas. He liked watching old movies, especially horror movies In later years he liked going somewhere warm in the winter. In 2000 we took a family vacation to Cancun to celebrate the millennium. Most of all, Bill loved his dogs, and on his last job, he used to take his dog, Max, to work to cheer up the residents of River East Personal Care Home. Max (who was 16) passed away the day after Bill, and his ashes will be buried with Bill's at a later date. The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals at Seven Oaks General Hospital who assessed and treated Bill during his five admissions in the last eight years, the dedicated Home Care Attendants who made it possible to care for Bill at home during this time, and the kind staff at Oakview Extendicare who kept him comfortable during his last two weeks of life. At Bill's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Life with Rev. Don Johnson officiating will be held at Mosaic Funeral Services, 1839 Inkster Blvd., Winnipeg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Bill and I met in the Cameron Highlanders Cadet band many years ago. Although it was a brief friendship Bill left me with a lasting impression. Just a couple of years younger than he, I quickly found that "Big Brother" I needed to navigate the maze of my new found adventure into the Cadet world. Oddly enough, it wasn't too long before we discovered that for a brief period brother Larry and I had been in the same classes at Greenway Elementary School. As it was back then, that just cemented our friendship. Unfortunately, as is often the case, our lives take different paths and friendships are lost but, not always the memories. Funny, the photo of Bill is exactly how I remember him. I would have known him had I run into him. Trying to think of how to describe Bill all those years ago, I'd have to say, genuinely honest, caring and a great guy to have as your friend. Sadly, we put off finding old friends far too long. I would have loved to have seen him one more time. - Posted by: Wayne Pierce (Band mate ) on: Aug 25, 2015

  • My condolences to Karen, Robert & Billy & family. My fond memories of Bill are his love of the Christmas Season & his generosity, his love of old movies, and kindness to all. I smile when I think of how upset he was when we decorated his office & work place for his 40th birthday as he didn't want to celebrate it. Sunday my own son Kevin will be 40. Also when Bill went from TD bank to Scotia bank & the wind got hold of his bill fold and hundreds of dollars blew around the parking lot. It seems humorous to me but not to him as he trembled all the more. I have many, many fond & humorous memories. "It's hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember." Karen, I know you are strong. May all the fond memories carry you through this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Bill - Posted by: Agatha Chartrand Schmidtke (co-worker / friend) on: Feb 06, 2013
