DOUGLAS PAUL BURZUIK
Date of Passing: Feb 06, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS PAUL BURZUIK Our most beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away surrounded by the love of his family on February 6, 2013, at the Selkirk & District General Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. He is survived by his common-law wife of 29 years Judith McIntyre; daughters Jocelyn (Anthony) Burzuik, Kathy (Todd) McIntyre; sons Steven (Chere) Burzuik, Don (Rachel) McIntyre, Bill (Sue) McIntyre; brothers Garry (Lori) Burzuik, Michael (Miriam) Burzuik; sisters Sandra Kurbis and Joan Burzuik, cousins Mike Burzuik Sr. and Darlene Johnston, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Doug is predeceased by his parents Betty Burzuik-Lee and Norman Burzuik; brother-in-law Bill Beaton. Doug was born and raised in Selkirk, MB, where he had many special memories of his childhood. As a young child, he loved spending time at the McRae homestead in Clandeboye, MB, with his grandparents Neil and Mary McRae. As a young man, Dad's first job was at the Selkirk Silica Sandplant. He spent many more years with Abex, and finally the Selkirk Rolling Mills from which he retired in January of 2012. He was proud to be a former volunteer member of the St. Andrews Fire Department (Hall 1) and a member and former coordinator of the Petersfield COPP. Dad had a love of the outdoors, fishing and hunting. But it is his family, and love of that family that surpassed everything else in his life. His greatest treasures were his children, and his grandchildren Cassandra (Cassie), Meghan, Tristan, Connor, Shae Lynn, Aidan, Sarah, Jessica, Matthew and Jessie. To friends and family, he was always known as "Papa". His love was unconditional, devoted, and compassionate to his friends and family. That love taught his many children right from wrong, loyalty to family and brought us all a deep and abiding strength. A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. with the Venerable Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, or the Manitoba Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Here has passed the greatest man I ever knew. What is good in me has come from him and if on the day I pass I am only half the man he was, then I have succeeded in life, and I would be knightly..... - Posted by: Steven Burzuik (Son) on: Feb 15, 2013

As cousins living provinces apart, we really enjoyed our time together on yearly visits as teens, and fortunately got together again recently. Doug was such a loving son and brother, hardworker, great writer and story teller, volunteer, a natural caregiver and much loved cousin. Our emails will be treasured, his gruffness hiding the softness, his heart was huge. Rest well cuz, you have earned it. Love to all our Selkirk family, sincere condolences to Judi & family, Barbara & Orv Robson - Posted by: Barbara & Orv Robson, Summerland, B.C. (Barbara and Doug are first cousins) on: Feb 08, 2013
