Date of Passing: Feb 05, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA (MARY) STREMBICKI (nee SUHAK) Suddenly and unexpectedly in her home, February 5, 2013, just weeks before her 87th Birthday, Maria passed away. Left to mourn is her children, Morris and Irene; and her granddaughters, Leah and Alanna, whom she adored and was most proud of. Maria was predeceased by her parents Ivan and Irene; her infant son George (Yurchyk) and her loving husband Paul (Pawlo) who left us in February of 2005. She is survived by her one remaining sister, Vera, in Ukraine. Maria was born in selo Holowenky, in Vinnytska oblast, central Ukraine. At age 17 she was captured by the German army and sent to Germany as forced labor. She eventually found herself working for a kind, German family, who treated her as their own daughter. After the war she met her future husband at a camp for displaced persons and they were married in April of 1947. In 1948 they immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada where our grandfather was living. In the mid 1970s, after a more than 30 year absence, she was able to visit her homeland again and most importantly, visit her mother and many brothers and sisters. Maria was an excellent homemaker, cook and especially baker. For the last five years she lived at St. Mary the Protectress Villa where she had many friends, old and new. Thanks to them all for looking after our Mama. She was also a long time member of the Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita and Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Prayers will be sung 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 10 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 11 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Dlugosh, Peter Gojan, Boris Kohut, Roman Korbutiak, Russell Kozoriz and Peter Pastoor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral restoration fund or to a charity of your choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
