Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET TROTTER With sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Trotter on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Riverview Health Care Centre, Winnipeg. Born to Arthur Ross and Elizabeth Sloan Trotter on June 22, 1927 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She pursued further education at the University of Alberta earning a BSc, a MSc and ultimately a Doctor of Medicine. She attained a specialty in Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa. Margaret met David Fish at an Alpine Club camp at Roche Miette in Jasper. They married in 1955 and when they had their first baby, Kathleen, she was kept in a basket under her desk in the Anatomy department at U. of A. Margaret was a trailblazer for working mothers managing both an academic career and a family as Sheila and Ian were born. In 1964 the family drove across the country to Ottawa. Margaret switched to the practical side of medicine providing medical care and a bit of mothering to Carleton U students. Though she loved academia she thrived on patient contact and ultimately had a private psychiatric practice. Margaret's years in Ottawa living between the Rideau River and Canal were filled with walks through the city, gardening, theatre, symphonies and opera and browsing antique stores. She moved to Winnipeg in 2002 to be closer to family. Living by the Assiniboine River under the big prairie sky of her childhood was a homecoming of sort. Margaret leaves her children: Kathleen (Warren) Waxer, Sheila delaVarende, Ian Fish (Jerri -Lee Mackay). Grandchildren: Hannah (Michael Ramsay), Clara and Ben Waxer, Emmanuel delaVarende and Jackson and Erika Gustafson-Fish. Step-grandchildren Emily and Zachary Ducharme. Special friend Jim Baker and family and Francois delaVarende. She was predeceased by her parents: Arthur and Bessie Trotter, former husband David Fish, brother Graham Trotter and sister Florence Stewart. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Margaret's Anglican Parish Church, 160 Ethelbert Street at Westminster Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctor's Without Borders , 20 Desjardins Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3X 0E8. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Thanks to Dr. Margaret Trotter I have been able to return to University at the age of 43 and complete my Ph.D at the U of T. She was so so much more than my doctor, she was a friend, such a caring friend. I owe her the best years of my life, and for this I will Always be grateful. My heartfelt sympathy to Kathleen, Sheila and Ian. I share the feeling of loss, but I also know that She will Always be with us. Much love. I had the privilege of being Margaret's hairdresser for many years. She was a very special lady. I loved every minute of our visits together. She was so caring. In 2011 when I was ill with diverticulitis, she came with probiotics and Greek Yogurt for me. I will miss her smiling face and her warm hugs. My condolences to your family and to Jim. - Posted by: Karen (Hairdresser) on: Feb 25, 2013

Always my "favourite Aunt" Marnie was such a gentle, thoughtful and also fun-loving and interesting person to be around. A trip to Ottawa was always punctuated by a visit to her house. I am sad I cannot be there to help you remember and celebrate her life Kathleen, Shiela and Ian - I hope you are doing okay. G'bye Marnie... - Posted by: Graeme Stewart (Nephew) on: Feb 13, 2013

What a loss of a Special Lady. It was a Joy to care for her during her Grace stay. She taught me a lot and definitely reminded me why I am a Nurse! I am so Blessed to have been part of her Wonderful Life Journey - Posted by: Holly Hill (Nurse) on: Feb 12, 2013
