RONALD WALTER SKOLNY July 10, 1950 - February 13, 2013 Ron passed away peacefully at his home. He is survived by his wife Dolores; his two special cats, Fleecy and Bleach; special aunties Lena Kernested of Gimli, Joan Solmundson (Roy) of Gimli and Marge Catley (Barry) of Toronto; sister-in-law Wanda Skolny of Gimli; nephews Joey Skolny of Gimli and Denni (Jill) Skolny and girls of B.C.; great Auntie Anne, Uncle Victor of Gimli and eight special cousins, Christine, Ken, Jim, Noreen, Kevin, Jennifer, Tanya and Robert. In-laws, Irene (Ken) Howard, Betty (Guy) Purcell of Thunder Bay, Dorothy Miller of Selkirk, Connie (Albert) Axell of Cold Lake, Shirley (Len) Ogilvie of Gimli, Verda (Herman) Isfjord of Gimli, Fred (Vicky) Miller of Cold Lake, 29 nieces and nephews and more great nieces and nephews. Ron grew up in Finns and was raised by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Mary Kuslak (deceased). His brother Dennis (deceased) was a big part of Ron's life and as youngsters the two cooked up many schemes, some not so good, some quite funny. Both boys attended Finns Grade School and Ron went on to High School in Riverton, then Grade 12 in Arborg. Some of Ron's jobs included Calvert's as it was being built, D S Service, Gimli Boat Works, Bruce's Marine, then back to Gimli Boat Works. If he wasn't fixing in-board or outboard motors he was fixing or riding snowmobiles in the 80's and 90's. In 2000, double by-pass surgery made him sell his last snowmobile and switch to motorcycles. He loved riding with a group or by himself and always enjoyed riding to Arborg Chili Fest, runs to Morden or through the Whiteshell. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gimli New Horizon 55 Plus Centre, 17 North Colonization Road, Loni Beach, Gimli. RONALD WALTER SKOLNY Peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, Ron Skolny, aged 62 years of Gimli, beloved husband of Dolores. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gimli New Horizon Club. Full obituary to follow in Saturday's paper.
