Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySITA MEHTA April 20, 1975 - February 16, 2013 It is with great sadness that the Mehta family must announce the sudden passing of Sita, daughter of Naresh and Asha Mehta, sister to Sima Trivedi and Bina Mistry and niece, cousin, aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by all. Sita was a warm and generous person with a kind heart and soul, and always kept in touch with loved ones to help when she could. As a respiratory therapist at Grace Hospital, her warm personality and empathy were critical in helping her patients recover and cope. Sita had been suffering from severe fibromyalgia and all the auxiliary symptoms that go with it for several years now, but her premature passing has left the family and community shocked and stunned. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. followed by a cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Winnipeg Region, 432 Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1Y4. I met Sita at her sister Bina's wedding in Toronto. I still remember the smile and joy on her face at her sister's wedding. May God bless her soul, and may she rest in peace and be in God's lap for peace and happiness in her future life. May God give the family the strength to go through this difficult time. I knew Sita via the Internet back in 1998. It is amazing that we maintained such a long friendship considering that long term correspondences usually have a short sell by date, but Sita was different. Her pseudonym was Sita809. I never knew the meaning of the number and I guess that the secret will accompany her to a wonderful afterlife. She was indeed, a very fantastic person to chat to. It is amazing how the power of the Internet manages to channelize our inner thoughts; of which I was very priviledged to be a recipient. We didn't have much in common apart from being part of the Indian diaspora; her Canada and me in the tiny island of Mauritius; yet she had an ability to listen, to absorb and interpret. It was no surprise that she was a professional therapist because she encompassed all of those qualities; She was someone who I really wanted to invite for my wedding in 1999, and witness the birth of my daughter 2 years ago. I will really miss her. I just found out the distance between Winnipeg and my hometown in Mauritius is exactly 10,000 miles. Yet, she was as close to my heart as one's best friend could be. On an endnote, I notice the last message on her facebook profile. It's source was unknown but it was the Sita Mehta I knew... "Sometimes the strongest people are the ones who love beyond all faults, cry behind closed doors, and fight battles that nobody knows about..."
